  1. Here's Nova Scotia's Premier and their response to Trump's tariffs If Ontario and Quebec do anything remotely like this, that's gonna bite really hard in New York and Michigan
  2. Well deserved
  3. I'm just amazed at how people lies to themselves over and over and over about this, that he wouldn't do it. Just an all-time own goal by Wall Street and non-tech corporate America
  4. The compartmentalization among the non-mainstream outlets is actually very smart and a way to avoid getting overwhelmed. But yeah, in a better world, the Times, Post and WSJ would be dividing and conquering each front. Instead, they are largely MIA altogether
  5. He... Literally said he was going to do this over and over and over again.
  6. It's lost in the shuffle, but this was just an incredibly dumb thing to do...
  7. There's also the possibility that Jim Bowden is speculating and doesn't have any special insight into any of it. Remember, just a month or two ago, Ken Rosenthal assured us that that the Tigers would never spend for someone like Bregman... now the story is that they have the best deal.
  8. I love this country, I truly do... But we deserve everything we are about to get from everyone else in this moment
  9. There's the obvious impacts internally to all of us, but I am very concerned that we are about to learn about the importance of the soft power we have, to date, weilded
  10. Right wing talk radio listeners aren't the entire universe of Trump voters.
  11. People may not have realized it at the time, but their vote for Donald Trump was a vote for Elon Musk....
  12. Right now, it's an open question and there is speculation among the chatter class that this is a bluff and that they may be looking for some kind of outcome similar to Colombia that can be spun politically. But the accumulation of these events over time will damage this country and we will be seen a less than reliable partner. Which is a gift to countries like China.
  13. Trump's talking points on sending water from the north have never made sense scientifically, but they were always equally inane from a political standpoint as well for this very reason.... the people most impacted by more and more water being sent from Central and Northern Cal down to the LA Basin are very very R constituencies.
  14. As Sarah Langs would say.... "Weeeeeeee"
  15. Guessing they aren't getting many bites...
  16. There's this tendency by some to assuming that absolutely nothing can damage Trump politically, but the fact that his people feel the need to exempt oil is an example of this not being true.
  17. The media has a lot of issues and I've criticized it plenty, but to at least some extent, I've come around on the idea that Democratic electeds bear some of the blame in the sense that they are not nearly quick enough to get in front of a camera and let it fly whenever various things happen. They are very different people with very different personas, but this is why AOC and John Fetterman are both very effective: they put it out there, it isn't airbrushed or combed through by consultants. And if they **** up when putting it out there, they are quickly pivoting to putting more stuff out there that will get at least some coverage. Aside from these two, I think we've seen some spines from Democrats outside of Washington (ie. JB Pritzker, Gavin Newsom, other Governors and AGs mostly), but the Washington set, particularly in the Senate, have been really ineffective in this moment. To that end, I don't know that it makes much of a difference, but I've called and emailed by blue state Senators multiple times in the past 10 days to plead for them to use their platforms more effectively and rise to the occasion. Even if we agree more with them, there's still value in holding their feet to the fire and demanding more effective representation.
  18. That's the talk, jacking up the price of oil in the Midwest would be damaging politically. Lumber is going to one to watch with Canadian imports.... people are already upset / frustrated by the cost of housing / construction, slapping tariffs on Canada will make that problem worse.
  19. Yes, he has announced 25% on Canada and Mexico so far
  20. They keep saying "DEIA" for a reason...
  21. JD's also is a convert to Catholicism, and it shows
