Depends a lot on the kids, particularly the pitchers. But yeah, without a SS, my goal gets lowered from 85 wins/periphery of WC contention to 81-81.

This franchise is technically overpaying their new catcher, but it filled a need with a competent major leaguer. If they don't, at a minimum, do something similar at their position of biggest need coming into the offseason, yeah, we'd all be right to be pissed. As for Ryan Kreidler, let him have a few more months in Toledo before throwing him to the wolves.

So rolling Kreidler out there when he hasn't proven himself ready is a-OK?

If two guaranteed years at $4m/year is too rich for this franchise, then why are we even talking about Trevor Story or Carlos Correa?

The fact that he thinks riding with Kreidler in 2022 is acceptable seems nuts to me.... If they fail to get one of the three big names, they should go get a Paul DeJong or someone else on trade. Just seems risky and bound to fail to send Kreidler out there on day one. I'll still be pissed either way. But at least it won't be gross negligence.

There's been so much focus on money with Correa, but I wonder if part of the strategy (to the extent one exists) is to bring down his ask on years. Stavenhagen was talking some about this on his podcast this week.... you want a guy like that on your team, but the difference between making that commitment for 10 years is different than, say, 8. After the Seager signing, that seems unlikely... just trying to understand the thinking

Semien and Matz were too generous on years. Possibly Ray as well.

There's a real cognitive dissonance between people's "Correa or bust" stance and the fact that Correa is highly unlikely to sign before the CBA Expires as well.

Trust me, I think it's idiotic.... even more idiotic than Al's skeleton rebuild. But the locals will eat it up anyway.

They are playing for about 2-3 years down the road.... a lot of youngsters will hit the circuit in the next couple of years. It's not the most conventional way to build a team, but best of luck to them.

At a minimum, we're likely gonna see how much of "The Tigers don't want to spend over $300 million" is posturing versus reality.

He's gonna fetch at least 350 if Seager is getting 325, one thinks.... I could see an overpay for Story or Baez, but I have a tough time see Pizza Jr. going that high for any free agent.

Honestly, if you want to see the Tigers take a run at Trevor Story, that may be best case scenario. But man, Semien and Seager both set the bar really high for SS signings.
