I get everyone's pessimism, but tbh, one could see the reaction to the first SS coming off the board from about a mile away.

I think it was one of the local guys, maybe McCoskey or Petzold who said it. TBH, I hadn't seen the Mariners linked to Ray before they signed him either, and one of them said that Ray wasn't gonna sign before the CBA expired because he was still set to meet with the Angels. So yeah, gotta take these guys with a grain of salt. It seems pretty fluid.

One of the beat writers reported that they had been in contact with all five of the SS candidates. I haven't seen the Mariners tied to Baez.

If the reports about the Rangers interest in Seager/Story are accurate, he's probably another guy waiting to see what happens with Seager

I don't have a problem with Correa doing what he has to do to maximize his value. That's just business. But the Tigers are under no obligation to wait for him if they want to go in a different direction. And if that means going after Baez or Story, so be it. At the end of the day, they'd be a better team with either one of those signings, at a cost which may allow them to make additional adds.

Correa may be waiting to see what happens with Seager

The reporting that Baez will supposedly let the Mets make a final offer has me a bit concerned on his front, although that may be more bluster than fact.

On top of the ones already mentioned, there's Gleyber Torres. Assuming the Yanks do something in free agency. High risk, high reward. Would be buying low.

I'm pessimistic that they get Ray, but if they did, a rotation with him, ERod and the kids seems really really solid.
