  1. I stand corrected, although its worth noting that the purchaser of the gun is facing charges of an illegal straw purchase. That doesn't exactly reflect well on Rittenhouse IMO... and yet another reason why he's no hero.
  2. I'd argue that Fox News giving Rittenhouse a whole hour on Tucker Carlson probably does more to inflame the situation than CBS making a factual statement.
  3. Your first point sorta gets undermined by the fact that one half of the media ecosystem seems to be working to turn Rittenhouse into a real-life Paul Kersey. In that context, I absolutely understand the concern.
  4. Sure enough, at least according to Morning Consult, it's not exactly clear cut.
  5. You realize that two different people can work from the same set of information and come to different conclusions or have different feelings, right?
  6. Understood. I would imagine that the feelings about this particular trial are probably complicated, even for the average person. Because the circumstances are complicated.
  7. Is this the same Larry Summers who is enthusiastically backing the BBB Act?
  8. Are students at Brandeis not allowed to have feelings or opinions on current events? I get that students in higher education may not be the median voters, but that doesn't mean that their feelings or opinions are somehow invalid or worthy of dismissal either.
  9. I can as well. Just saying that there are multiple interpretations
  10. Realistically, the earliest they compete for a World Series is probably 2023, and Chris' comments may be a reflection of that. Overall, Chris' comment about providing Al/AJ the resources they think they need is a more aggressive posture than I can ever remember him taking. But now he needs to back it up....
  11. Quick, somebody ask AJ if he ordered the Avocado Toast at brunch last week! lol
  12. But the hypothetical of walking down the street one day and being attacked is a lot different than the Rittenhouse situation where, setting aside the value judgment on motives, he made choices that put himself into that situation. As you yourself said above, none of them should have been there despite the fact that they may have all been legally within their right to be there.
  13. I mean, yeah. Almost like those people are hypocrites? It doesn't really matter whether it's David Hogg or Kyle Kashuv or Kyle Rittenhouse, it's hard not to be cynical about how political actors use people who either aren't emancipated or are barely so for their own ends.
  14. And to the point on vigilantism earlier, I would add that I'm not sure whether a society where everyone acted as Rittenhouse did in that situation would ultimately be a good thing or a net plus. Especially given how the quality of gun safety courses can vary widely, or if they are even required in a particular jurisdiction. Again, I don't think there is anything contradictory about believing Rittenhouse didn't necessarily break any laws while also feeling ambivalent or negative about the situation.
  15. Enough said. Kyle Rittenhouse, like the others, shouldn't have been there. So forgive me if I don't treat him like a hero. And for the second time, my answer is that I wouldn't have been in Kenosha that night. What I would or wouldn't do in your hypothetical is not relevant to a discussion about why some view Rittenhouse's actions is a negative light.
  16. I wouldn't have been in Kenosha that night.
  17. Perhaps this is another reason why folks are cynical, Archie. It'd be one thing if this was just a man looking to clear his name and live his life in quiet peace. Instead, after achieving his innocence, he's gonna position himself to become another David Hogg or Kyle Kashuv. Maybe some folks don't want to participate in that and give it attention.
  18. Maybe some of us don't get the same dopamine rush off vigilante justice that you do?
  19. This may be a hot take, but we'd probably all be better off paying less attention to these high profile cases because of how easily they can be manipulated by folks who seek to divide us.
  20. The reality is that the state that perfected and mainstreamed the concept of mass mail-in voting was Florida. Which has had Republican Governors in charge since I was 2. And it has been widely used in a lot of western, R-led states like Utah, Idaho and Arizona for years as well. And while I dont know that Dems previously complained or not when they weren't as nimble at turning out voters for mail-in ballots, the reality is that that form of voting only became a bogeyman for Rs when Donald Trump made it a bogeyman for Rs.
  21. With Javy being #1?
  22. You realize that the Democratic ticket managed to win two states entirely controlled by Republicans right? Its almost like they won because, and hear me out on this one, enough people in enough states preferred them over the other guy. Ever consider that?
  23. I guess what I'm suggesting is that for most people who live in that part of Lake County, IL, the relationship with Kenosha isn't all that close. Akin to the fact that, despite Waxahachie is about 20 miles away from where I live in Texas, people consider it distinct from our community. Now that may be different for Rittenhouse personally because of his family... but if you asked most people pre-Rittenhouse if they considered Antioch to be the same community as Kenosha, based on my experience, they wouldn't have.
  24. As I said believe I said at the time, you'll have to take that up with Texas law for how the charge is adjudicated. Just as Wisconsin law dictates in the case of Kyle Rittenhouse
