I like the Ole Mississippi story. Their coach leaves to take a job at LSU before their bowl game and they go ahead and win anyway. Ha-Ha.
-
This is a great question but an even better answer;
-
Yeah, I wonder if it stunted some of that generation players development? I remember hearing it really affected the drafts around that time since scouts couldn't see the players in action. If Trey was shut down in 2020, wherever he was playing, and still got drafted the following June? Maybe he wasn't really a 1st round talent? IDK...

Agreed. But if there's any hope for this country, we desperately need to elect democrats to start to undo some of the damage Trump has done to the people of this country, the rest of the world, the environment, human rights and our world standing (reputation). After just one year of him, it could take 20 years for some of the things that are fixable. The damage he doing to the environment (for 3 more years) seems pretty irreversible.

It was, by far, the best player Harris has signed though. Bregman was a perfect fit for Detroit. History with Hinch, a position of need and a much needed RH bat. For whatever reason, Harris couldn't get the job done. Makes some fans wonder how far the Tigers could have gone...

I wonder if shutting down minor league baseball during the pandemic played a part in some of these young players development? Edit; no, Trey wasn't drafted until 2021 and it was the 2020 season that was shut down. But how about other players?
-
Kinda like how he signed Torres when we already had a 2nd baseman along with 3 utility guys who could fill in at 2nd? Torres fell into the Tigers lap...

I said the other day that I thought there were too many bad teams playing in Bowl games just so they could have more Bowl games. I turn on ESPN and the Mayo Bowl is on. Mississippi State is playing and they're 5-7. Seriously?
-
Oh yeah, agreed. But letting him walk with no replacement in place? I'll always consider that a mistake. And Nick Maton? Was there any indication that he would be the answer? Like was he a highly regarded minor league prospect? Or just....a cheap option?
-
I guess seeing what they do for Skubal will tell us more than just fans speculating on a message board. But really, those player long term decisions are way, way in the future. Harris may have moved on by then and the new GM will get all the credit for the Harris players who help us win. 🤣🤣
-
Do you see the Tigers ever signing premium and expensive players to long term contracts of 6 years or more? And I'm not saying it's Harris who wouldn't do it, I've said several times that nobody knows if he's under orders to keep payroll set at a certain amount. Chris doesn't spend like his dad spent. At least, not yet.
-
Letting Candelario walk was his first mistake. We've been looking for a 3rd baseman ever since. Is Nick Maton available? <ducks>
-
There may not be extensions for Branch and LaPorta coming up. They may need to only be signed on a one year "prove it" deal. Their injuries may put their careers in jeopardy.
-
Caleb was also near the bottom of the league in release time. A combination of a horrible offensive line, play calling and him not throwing the ball was the cause of so many sacks. A QB getting rid of the ball quicker can make OL stats much better, as do the play calls. Look at the way Chicago got better as the season went on, thats a sign of very good coaching. And...staying relatively healthy. Give Ben Johnson a couple/few drafts and Chicago may end up being a powerhouse in the NFL.
-
I don't know. I think Holmes and MCDC really like him. It wouldn't surprise me if he hung around for another season. But we probably should draft his replacement this draft. If some other team wants to overpay for him, he should cash in while he can.
-
Attracting other talent? Thats a huge leap. This Tigers organization doesn't go after long term expensive players. Players will sign with the teams that offer them the most money, in most cases. The Tigers seem to limit contracts to 2 or 3 years, signing players coming off of injury or after an ineffective season on a "prove it" contract as a stepping stone to future big contracts. When I wonder if signing Skubal to a huge deal would benefit the business end of our team, I meant more of the fan base and any profits for winning the division and making the playoffs? I just wonder how much is the difference on the business end between playing .500 or playing .650 ball and seriously contending?
-
I refuse to express my opinion on this subject with you because you already know it. I just really, really hope that the young talent that the Harris team is counting on actually comes thru and make an impact, in a good way. Most fans on this board want the Tigers to be successful. So we're all kinda in the same boat. But baseball is a business and making as much money as possible is the goal. Bottom line...would the Tigers make more or less money if they give Skubal $40 million per season? About 1/4 of the payroll, on one player?
-
So you think he'll be back for the 2026 season?
-
Think he'll be back?
-
Alabama and Ohio State both losing...perfect. 😅
-
Indiana may put up 50 points. College plays by different unwritten rules, running up the score is perfectly acceptable.
-
Are they the only team that got extra rest and won their game? I thought I heard something about teams who were rested and all lost? Either way, Indiana is really good. I'm rooting for them too. Perennial losers who turned it around...
-
It really was a very good game. Notre Dame thought they should have been in the playoffs over Miami but Miami justified their selection. Props to them.

With no Lions. Who you backing for the Super Bowl?
Sports_Freak replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Lions
A Buffalo Chicago Super Bowl would be entertaining. But while Buffalo might make it, I see San Francisco or Philly making it. Or maybe the Rams or Seahawks. So...IDK. -
I get a perverse pleasure in watching Ohio State lose. 🤣🤣
