Good post. I think we're mostly agreeing. Neither of us expect a trade, but even if not, I've appreciated the discussion. I would like to ask, what would be your final proposal on a deal? Last call, what trade has you agreeing to pull the trigger?

Right, he has proven he is a major leaguer. That's not in question. What is speculative is his durability and ability to throw at the same level once he breaks through his previous high (149.1) in IP. Most O's fans (including me) feel he can do it, but still see the risk in it. I just feel some Tigers' fans need to at least acknowledge that part of it. Again, I hope it works out.

That's not unreasonable. I honestly would be shocked if Holliday were dealt, but it's not a ridiculous thing to see him included in these sort of proposals.

So, to be clear, you're saying Skubal would be the CY Young winner if the season ended today? If so, we agree, though it's pretty close. But that's just it, the season doesn't end today. You make a large point about speculation in regards to prospects, yet don't mention Skubal's performance (and health) moving forward as being speculative. He's never thrown over 149.1 innings in his career, yet you are already declaring he's better than the proven Burnes, who has pitched at a Top Tier level for years AND you then say that it's not close? Skubal's numbers are slightly better than Burnes at this time, as both have 20 starts, with Skubal's ERA at 2.34 v Burnes at 2.38 and Skubal's WHIP at 0.919 v Burnes at 1.043. Burnes has actually won a Cy Young, received MVP votes, and been a 4x All Star. It's speculative to imply Skubal is better and will continue to be better. The truth is, Skubal v Burnes is not really important, but you brought it up. Skubal has 2.4 years of control remaining. That's a fact. Injuries have been an unfortunate reality for Skubal. That is also a fact. He's been great thus far this season (fact) and looks like he's going to be great moving forward, if he remains healthy. That last part is speculative. Over the last four years Skubal has logged 149 IP, 118 IP, 80 IP, and 123 IP. Those are facts. I and most of the O's fanbase would love to acquire Skubal. That's also a fact. Again, it's not fair to say these top tier prospects may not pan out, and then say that Skubal will. There needs to be room to admit there is risk in these types of trades. I sincerely hope that a fair deal can be had and that everyone wins. That usually means both fan bases feel they got robbed. LOL

We wouldn't need Meadows in return, but essentially Holliday, Brandon Young, Strowd, and Rhodes (or Fabian) would do it for you?

I'm on that site and appreciate the work they put into it, though, as they themselves admit, it's just a best guess. If you just took away Norby, that would make it super close in value. Naturally, many feel the O's would not trade Holliday, but as I've repeated, one never knows.

I'm curious, in all seriousness (as if we should take this as a serious thing 😛 ) what you would legitimately want from the O's for Skubal. The hour is getting late, and we are a team in need. Skubal's not the only starter in town, but may be the best available, despite his injury risks and prior innings pitched totals. Thanks in advance.

The Dodgers have nowhere near the prospect value we do, so if Skubal is dealt to them, it'll likely be because Elias just wouldn't pull the trigger. He's in a tough spot and other teams know it. So, it'll be interesting to see how he resolves our needs.

I agree with you in general. We do need to make a move or moves for pitching, but was illustrating that the "logjam" isn't that backed up. It is cool to imagine all of these guys in the lineup but the odds are that something will go down at the deadline, and one or more of these bigger prospects could be a part of that. Yeah, I wasn't saying this year in regards to the defense. But rather beginning next season and on from there.

To compare Skubal's trade to Soto's isn't realistic. Just my two cents though.

It is a great problem to have, no doubt. Basallo will be ready as soon as late next season, so he can backup Rutschman and play 1B/DH. Holliday will likely return this season, but I've been hoping they'll start grooming him to take over CF next season. That way Westburg plays 2B and Mayo 3B. Kjerstad is slotted in to start in RF next year as Santander is a FA at year's end. We have room, but our manager, Brandon Hyde, has been hesitant to move on from vets, though that will resolve itself next season. Mullins and Hays may also not return, though we have control for another season for each. So much to consider.

You know, anything is possible. What I think could be and what actually could be may be very different things. I don't believe Elias would deal Holliday to Detroit for Skubal, but maybe it is within the realm of possibilities. I'd be surprised if Basallo AND Kjerstad were both dealt for a great starter, but one with injury concerns. But then again, I may be wrong. Elias LOVES his prospects, as does everyone else, but at some point he'll need to move the needle. I'll run this trade proposal by the Orioles Hangout posters and get their take.
