  1. Since the Dodgers played yesterday and they won, giving them one win more than the Tigers, they technically have World Series home-field advantage.
  2. MacKenzie Gore is pretty good. Aside from allowing six runs recently to the Dodgers he’s been striking out a ton of guys and shutting out teams. If Jack keeps getting behind in the count, the second game could be uncomfortable.
  3. I just now checked and although Kerry Carpenter is reported to be on the 10 day disabled list he is still listed as active on the 25 man roster. Also, no additional pitchers are yet reported to have been added for the double header.
  4. For the Tigers, left-hander Tyler Holton will start Game 1 and right-hander Jack Flaherty will start Game 2. The Nationals will counter with Trevor Williams and MacKenzie Gore, respectively.
  5. My son urged me to watch Mike Flanagan‘s 8-episode Fall of the House of Usher based upon Edgar Allan Poe’s story. If you like watching rich evil people die horrible deaths you’ll like this. It’s about one of the richest families in the world in present day NYC whose cornerstone business is a crooked pharmaceutical company marketing an equivalent of the drug OxyContin and involved in countless other shady endeavors.
  6. Yes, against Cleveland, which has lost five games in a row. Everyone but the Tigers and the White Sox are on losing streaks.
  7. Twins lost to the Marlins too. The Marlins have won their last eight games and are 9-1 in their last 10. They have recently swept the Giants and the Diamondbacks and they’re playing the Twins whom they’ve already defeated tonight so they have a good chance of continuing this streak.
  8. In terms of the “blackout” rules, I’m fortunate to live in the Northwest and the only games on mlb.tv that are blacked out for me is when the Tigers play the Mariners. That’s something I can live with. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with what the rest of you in the Detroit viewing area have to endure. Several years ago when one of the two IP addresses associated with me was mistakenly assigned to Bartlesville Oklahoma, instead of Boise, Idaho (a not uncommon error a highly skilled tech person for my Internet provider explained) I was blacked out for Astros games, Rangers games, Braves games, and I think Cardinals games all of them somehow within my alleged “viewing area”of the God forsaken no man’s land of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. This makes MLB.TV almost entirely useless for some fans. To their credit when I explained this to MLB TV they made sure I had no blackouts for that remaining year so I could even watch the Tigers play the Mariners that season.
  9. Phew. Google AI claims that he’s not there. Apparently no one on Reddit has talked about it so obviously it can’t exist.
  10. I thought I saw Jobe in the dugout Sunday. I didn’t think he would be with them. Maybe I hallucinated him the same way AI hallucinates “facts.“
  11. With 77 games remaining he should have 15 starts so that’s possible although he’s going to have to get some run support and the bullpen will have to be almost flawless and not blow any leads.
  12. Oh well, I expected this. At least there’s only one trip to the West Coast remaining on the schedule at the end of August with the Athletics. Those games are really annoying for those of you in the East Otherwise there’s some games in the Central Time zone so there won’t be any annoying truly late games.
  13. My iPhone weather app for the DC area is very discouraging. It says it’s supposed to rain almost nonstop until 11 AM tomorrow and there’s a flood warning for the DC area. My son has talked to me into watching Mike Flanagan‘s “Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix, which he’s already watched and the first two episodes have been pretty compelling so that might end up being what I’m doing tonight.
  14. Yes. I don’t know how short the IL stints can be. Perhaps getting as much time to heal as possible is better than the whole “playing through it” thing which hasn’t worked.
  15. First pitch change ups fooled them. Nice, it works for Tommy, although with Skubal in a completely different manner.
  16. This means that he would miss the Washington and Cleveland road series as well as the Tampa Bay home series. Then he could be back for the home series with Seattle before the All-Star break.
  17. [Beck] Tigers will place Kerry Carpenter on 10-day injured list, manager A.J. Hinch told MLB Network Radio. Trey Sweeney, who was optioned to Toledo with Matt Vierling’s return last weekend, is being called back up. Hinch calls the Carpenter move “a very cautious decision.
  18. Looks like the game has a good chance of being delayed then there’s a two hour window where it’s not raining so hopefully they can get this one in.
  19. With the Tigers playing only .500 ball for the last 10 games while their closest competitors in the Central have slumped, they now have an 11.5 game lead over Cleveland, a 12.5 game lead over Minnesota, and a 14 game lead over Kansas City. Only the White Sox, who have likewise played .500 ball, have stayed stable at 24.5 games behind.
  20. I hope Carpenter doesn’t miss much playing time.
  21. Erie Moon Mammoths: Detroit's Double-A team gets rebrand from John Oliver
  22. Who’s that? I’m not a podcast person.
  23. Not mine, although everybody that knows me well already knows I’m a Tigers fan, but not many of them are people who watch ESPN. Most people I know when I talk about the Tigers glaze over.
  24. I think “pretty optimistic” means not out for a month.
