I’m such a dope. I keep checking this site and other news sources to see “if anything‘s happened!“ It’s like I’m a kid and even though Thanksgiving itself is weeks away, when my parents are gone I contemplate sneaking around the house trying to find Christmas presents hidden somewhere. I never really did this because I was worried I’d find a box of socks or something and get real sad. I hope Scott and Chris get us more than socks this off-season, and some indication of this occurring sooner rather than later would be welcome.

That is a heck of a return by the Vikings.

Well, that first drive is rather nice way to start the game. I’m following this game on the game cast on the ESPN app and the plus side is that I don’t have to listen to or watch commercials or deal with announcers.

I honestly don’t know what to do. I’m just a fan seeking an angry fix in the starry dynamo of the night. Maybe “staying the course” will indeed reap dividends that surpass anything our imaginations can manufacture. But I don’t think the collapse at the end of the season was merely indicative of statistical fluctuations beyond anyone’s control. There was something seriously wrong that neither the players nor the coaching staff could address. I don’t know if newer and better players or a reshuffled coaching staff or philosophy will be an answer or not. I just want the world and I want it now.

I’m not the sharpest pencil in the box, nor am I — to quote the confident protagonist in Sinclair Lewis’s book Babbitt, “a Rockefeller or a James J. Shakespeare“ who nonetheless “knows his own mind” — but I think this team as presently constituted has peaked. Unless serious changes are made the magic carpet ride is over, and when I cast my crone-like wandering eye into my gypsy crystal ball I see the beginning of this next season as an extension of what we witnessed in the slide at the end of 2025. This club has to do more than just “stay the course“ as the elder President Bush once put it. I’m almost up for erecting a gallows or rolling the guillotine out to home plate during the off-season to ensure that things change.

Once again, I can’t watch this game on FOX. Like the sad little boy who lives on the wrong side of the tracks in The Polar Express who never gets any presents, I got my hopes up when the national FOX feed of game 7 last night in Toronto pitched the opportunity to watch this Lions Vikings game on TV at home, but to no avail. When I checked my local YouTube TV listings I of course get my “local” or “regional“ broadcast of the Denver Broncos which is a whopping 12 hr. drive away and only accomplished if I never stop for food, drink or gas and am catheterized the whole way. I have never met anybody in the 38 years I’ve lived in Boise Idaho, who is an avid Denver Broncos fan among my extended family group, or friends, at work, or school, or anywhere for that matter.

My life isn’t appreciatively affected by the outcome of this World Series. At least I don’t feel I’ve had my lungs removed and that I’m hanging upside down in a rural Swedish barn as in Midsommer or anything like I do when the Tigers lose just about any game.

As Kurt Vonnegut says repeatedly in Slaughterhouse Five “so it goes.”
