  1. A six run first inning for the Tigers would be a wonderful way to match the six pitch first inning of Montero.
  2. First pitch of the game is 3 inches out of the strike zone and it’s a strike.
  3. This is obviously one of those games where Montero can’t be kept in until he’s allowed four or five runs. I hope we see his better angels in this game.
  4. This is the very definition of “small sample size.”
  5. No. A bit more colorful than that.
  6. To be honest, at the risk of eliciting the disrespect of my peers, I didn’t follow game #2 very long and only checked in occasionally until the very end to witness Carpenter’s utterly unbelievable three-run home run which came at the end of a game marked most of the way by a tedious futility in which defeat seemed certain to me. The angst was too much for me. Instead, I spent $29.99 at Amazon to purchase then watch Deadpool & Wolverine which I’ve already seen three times at the theater to follow the rapid-fire dialogue on CC I’d previously missed. At the beginning of the film, as a result, I paused it to look up the word “pegging” which I urge none of you to search if you’re at work. GO TIGERS!!!
  7. YES. Holy Jesus, this umpire sucks or Jake is a genius.
  8. I’m impressed the ump didn’t call that ball four on Matt Verling as a strike because hey it was two or 3 inches near the strike zone. I’m just kinda used to this **** happening.
  9. Kinda sorta actually really is a must win. Scoring some runs would be good too.
  10. I think the issue was sending him out there on short rest. He’s too valuable a commodity with too great a future to risk that future. He’s the anchor that keeps the Tigers from drifting away.
  11. I don’t know if I believe that this franchise will offer long-term contracts of substantial value vastly exceeding its existing payroll to win what could quite possibly prove to be only a few more games and disrupt the “26 Musketeers” élan that seems to be providing dividends right now. It’s not like I have a crystal ball or anything, but I don’t think it’s in the DNA of this team’s ownership to do that. Chris Ilitch looked like a happy leprechaun when he was getting doused in the locker room and it just seems unlikely to me that if he departs from the way of building this team thus far it will be a moderate departure and nothing really dramatic unless Scott Harris does a really, really good sales job.
  12. Yeah, I did the same, or tried to, but the wisp in the air of our resurgent Idaho range and forest fires, reinvigorated by stiff winds, quickly made that escape unappealing. Living in the charmed bubble of these last two months, and following only this site and Detroit media sources, it was hard to watch even the pre-game on TV as the national media seemed to slap us in the face with the wet fish their gushing appreciation of all the other teams deemed important — and how no matter what our team has done, it’s still considered a sideshow (and then it responded in kind today). But it’s just one game and I don’t think this one game is going to deflate the resilience of this club. I hope something germinates within this team during the off day and it charges out of the gate defiantly on Monday.
  13. This game was hard to endure. I wish I hadn’t seen it.
  14. Yeah. I wish we played tomorrow and it was like a regular season thing without an off day. It’ll be good for Skubal, but usually you want to bounce back immediately and there’s no opportunity to get the momentum immediately stirred back up. We have defeated good teams all year. Heck even before this good run, we took two of three games from the Dodgers. But Cleveland is not interested in respecting our narrative and they’re writing their own. At least today.
  15. I guess the philosophy behind throwing “1st pitch strikes” is also to make sure they’re hard to hit.
  16. The dramatic come from behind victory will be all the sweeter when it happens.
  17. These guys are really swinging the bats with authority like there’s no tentativeness about this at all.
  18. Well, the no-hitter is over for both teams quickly.
  19. Wish that ball off of Colts bat had been seeing eye double.
