The goal of a historic ST perfect game has cleared the first hurdle.

I would never hope for someone to be injured because that would be morally corrupt. But if Correa just sucked up a storm and screwed the Twins for three years that would make me happy. I don’t want him to be hurt because I’m honestly not Evil but I will root for him to suck because it hurts the Twins.

Spring training, hot baseball wives.

Those were the ones I was thinking of that I didn’t like. I think that was the ‘79 World Series team. At least the hats.

He killed Keller!

Those uniforms have a quiet traditional dignity about them.

So, we are playing the NL team with whom we have been most associated for 121 years.

I am starting to get optimistic about this season. My optimism has a poor track record.

I feel like one of those Japanese soldiers after World War II who wasn’t sure that the war had ended. Is it safe to come out now?

Forget Correa. I wouldn’t authorize a 10-year deal for Jesus. Yes his first three seasons were spectacular, but he got to the show at 30 and he’s 33 years old. His inordinately high BABIP is clearly unsustainable. He hangs out with a pretty rough crowd too. I think he’s a public relations problem waiting to happen. I vote no.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
IdahoBert replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
So let me get this straight; instead of playing teams within our own division something like 72 games a year we will play 48 games a year? That’s like a dream come true. Also, can owners make major changes to the structure of the leagues and basic rules at will? Like abolishing separate leagues altogether? Or is that years away when there’s another CBA negotiation? I guess I could look this up but I don’t want to do my own research.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

I’m glad the DH will be universal. For me, celebrating a pitcher’s AB is the equivalent of applauding Jim Crow, lynchings, and book burnings.- 1,851 replies

I will be glad not to play the same damn teams in our division over and over again. And if part of the price I have to pay to get that is to play more interleague games I can live with that.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
IdahoBert replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I had honestly given up and stopped following the news on the CBA and was on the verge of burning my baseball paraphernalia, rubbing the ashes all over my body and walking through the streets shouting “Woe, woe, the End is near!” I’m glad I didn’t do that.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
IdahoBert replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
When much of the season was canceled in 2020 I discovered how little I really need this hobby. The part of me that’s a cynic and a nihilist thinks Pol Pot was pretty much right about burning the whole thing down (although I do disagree with his position on people who wore glasses). i’m really tired of this But I’m not a cynic and I’m not a nihilist and I know that as soon as baseball begins I’ll be back like a dog excited that his owner has come home at the end of the day. But I might bite him really hard.- 1,851 replies

AH-knee-BALL, at least that’s what Dan says and I’m sticking with it. When you pronounce it “Annabelle” you should be playing a banjo at a hoedown.- 1,851 replies

Regarding Dan Dickerson, I haven’t noticed egregious mispronunciations exceeding common Anglicizations — like saying Paris instead of PEAR~d-d-d-d-eeeee so maybe I’m not paying close enough attention — but I remember Vin Scully mispronouncing Anibal Sanchez as Annabelle when the Tigers were playing the Dodgers and it really grated on me. But I think Vin made up for it by telling an interesting anecdote about Anibal’s personal life that I found unusually fascinating although I can’t remember it now.- 1,851 replies

I sure am glad that spring training season has only been delayed by one week; that must mean that we have lots of reasons to be optimistic.- 1,851 replies

Just to go off topic for a moment, I’m presuming that because it’s the Holy Holiday of Super Bowl Sunday that there won’t be any resolution to the lock out today.- 1,851 replies

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the story. Well you know what they say about great minds thinking alike; it’s similar to the saying about big hands and big feet inferring big shoes.- 1,851 replies

I keep checking this site to see if “we’ve got there yet.“ Whenever there is news it’s like being on a road trip in the backseat and dad pulls into McDonald’s and everyone gets excited and he buys a coffee for himself then drives away. There’s no good news.- 1,851 replies

As for a lottery I can see this as a rational solution to a concrete problem but many decisions everywhere all the time are made due to factors other than reason alone such as power relations etc. I’m not holding my breath for anything to happen because reasoning parties have found Jesus and arrived at some notion of the common good. But it could happen.- 1,851 replies
