  1. I ran across this “Sports Illustrated baseball issue 1969” on Facebook and it’s pretty cool.
  2. I don’t have any genuine animus for any of the teams in the Central. I just see them as obstacles to my enjoyment. And not having lived in the Midwest for over 50 years I’ve never had to mingle at games with their fan bases. So I enjoy a kind of distance from a lot of this and completely understand the ground zero enmity people who are closer to the action can have for other teams and their fans. I am in no position to be judgmental about that. Dealing with the unwashed masses of other teams is unpleasant. But being sheltered from all this in my own little La La Land out west, I have the luxury of focusing more on the adherents I’ve met of other clubs who are very literate fans and passionate about the histories of their various teams, and in this sense, like us on our better days. I enjoy that type of W. P. Kinsella collegiality with baseball fans from numerous teams and it’s sort of like Hinduism, different faces of the same God. But for the last three games against the White Sox, I have no problem forgetting what I just said and going all Lawrence of Arabia on them and yelling “no prisoners!“ and it doesn’t matter if the wild card is still in play or not.
  3. That long? I didn’t bother to look it up. KC hasn’t normally done stuff like this. In the past, they’ve let just about every good player slip into the hands of other clubs.
  4. When he becomes a free agent, I am sure that Mike’s children will be glad to plunk down $50 million a year for each of eight years to install him at short. <ducks>
  5. I have bad memories of expecting certain victories. I’m going to approach this game with trepidation and hope. I want to be like the man at the end of the Polar Express who can still hear the tiny bell from Santa’s sleigh when other can’t.
  6. 1987: the scar tissue from that one runs deep.
  7. This makes their success all the more galling.
  8. I hope Colt is OK.
  9. “Back in the Day” in what now seems to be a galaxy far far away, I remember complaining about Smoke’s lineups and being dazzled by Chris Shelton. This is so much better.
  10. Skubal tomorrow and he’s a man on a mission having had trouble with the Royals before. Pretty dramatic.
  11. They’re young enough to perhaps be stupidly confident, but also young enough and smart enough to respect the coaching they’re receiving and it’s kind of the best of both worlds.
  12. I wish tomorrow’s game was a day game. I’m really in the mood for a day game.
  13. I have to admit I’m amazed they won this game. It just seemed like they couldn’t put it together, but they held them off and came through in the end in a way that we’re getting used to, but shouldn’t. This is really an amazing stretch.
  14. Beau is my player of the game
  15. I’m dazzled.
  16. Witt Jr. grounds out
  17. Whoever’s coming in they’re facing the toughest guys in the lineup. Witt leads off. It’s conceivable he has a chip on his shoulder right now.
  18. A 4th run would be good. I like even #’s
  19. Thank you Riley
  20. Don’t K Riley
  21. Balk Bloop = a run
  22. I’ve been wondering the same thing it seems to be a mystery.
