  1. Holy moley he got out of it. I smell a barrage and tiger runs coming as a response.
  2. I mean, if you understand baseball, it’s fine but somebody who’s really casual about it would not write home about it, so far.
  3. This is not a particularly interesting game.
  4. Doesn’t look like a very well attended game. I saw a couple games there with a good friend when I would go up to the bay area, which would’ve been in ‘83 or ‘84 and he had season tickets second or third row on the third base side and I liked the park. It was not a bad experience and you could take the BART there, park the car somewhere down the line, easy access. During batting practice, I locked eyes with Ricky Henderson and I was just a chump in the stands and he stared me down because he’s competitive in everything even with morons he’s competitive and yeah, he definitely won. I was intimidated and almost thought I should be wearing a dress, “not that there’s anything wrong with that.“
  5. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and was grumpy as heck and didn’t follow this game very closely, especially after I saw we were down 3–0. Forever it seemed… then I picked up the phone 10 seconds after the slam. After the fact, I went back and watched that last inning on mlb.tv and noticed how jubilant and certain the crowd was that they were going to win. Their faces were glowing with a nearly childlike joy, and I almost felt bad for them, but only almost. I know what it’s like to feel crushed, and it was basically their turn. Baseball is a zero sum game, and there actually is crying in baseball, but not for us tonight.
  6. Detroit radio was too far away in Idaho back in 1988. In Indiana in the 1960s though I could pick up Boston radio pretty clearly and I remember listening to some guy who I think his name was Jerry Williams.
  7. You’re optimism is fetch, but you still can’t sit with us in the lunchroom.
  8. I feel like a heroin addict who swore off junk and just found a little balloon of it in the alley and it’s the sweetest stuff ever.
  9. Parker Meadows hits a grand slam (6) to left field. Justyn-Henry Malloy scores. Jace Jung scores. Colt Keith scores. In the name of it of all that is good and decent please don’t blow this.
  10. I can’t honestly get too excited about making it to the playoffs, even though I guess I should. I can’t see this team making enough of an unlikely run for it to matter. It might mean a lot to the players though so for their sake it would be great, but I have a hard time personally investing much emotional energy in this scenario. I am vastly more invested in the future than in the present. I am not interested in bragging rights or caring about what other fan bases think. I’m an emotional fan and the entertainment value of the team has always been paramount to me, and I have been vastly entertained this season enough to be satisfied with things as they are right now. Anything more than that would be fine. The Tigers have been my near constant companion to one degree or another for 64 years and however she decides to love me or spurn me my loyalty remains undiminished regardless of the outcome.
  11. I wish other teams believed in the day game getaway philosophy.
  12. I went to bed when it was tied. Awoke thinking a loss likely and I was right. and it’s pretty disappointing, especially considering how the game began. What’s going on now is all about next year. The fact that we’ve had so much to celebrate as of late is something we should be grateful for. I know, it seems like being grateful for walking uphill both to and from school, but this recent run has been wonderful. I haven’t enjoyed this team so much in a long time. We can’t just wait and wait and wait for these guys to be magically “ready.” They already know how to swim in a pool so throwing them into the ocean is the next step. There’s a high mortality rate for animals in a state of nature - I watch a lot of nature documentaries - and it’s no different for these baseball creatures of ours. This is where we all need to link hands and sing “Tomorrow” from Annie.
  13. It’s a ballgame again.
  14. Padres Weaver one.
  15. Trey Sweeney homers (2) on a fly ball to right field. Jace Jung scores.
  16. That is an ethical failure I regret.
  17. So far we’ve scored a run each inning
  18. Tigers get out of the jam.
  19. 2-0 Tigers!
  20. Dillon Dingler grounds out, shortstop Mason McCoy to first baseman Jake Cronenworth. Spencer Torkelson scores.
  21. Jung gotta hit!
  22. Tork walks.
  23. More runs please.
