  1. Thx. I remember in the very old days of satellite TV — like 40 years ago you could just watch an unfiltered camera view of the playing field while people mumbled and talked and moved around in the background.
  2. How soon before the beginning of the game itself does the pregame show usually start? I’m kind of a neophyte when it comes to watching these games on TV. It’s been a while.
  3. I like the idea of “medical retirement option.” It sounds too good to be true.
  4. In a way, the Tigers seem to be running it up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes. But these don’t seem like moves done out of desperation either. It’s “let’s see what we’ve got!” I’m really enjoying this. And here I thought this last part of the season would be a death march.
  5. Báez returned to Detroit over the weekend to undergo further evaluation. The verdict was he needed an arthroscopic hip procedure. The Tigers transferred Báez to the 60-day injured list Monday, making room on the 40-man roster for right-handed pitcher Ty Madden, who was set to debut against the White Sox.
  6. When the Tigers are in San Diego on their off day and they’re walking past a strip club, I wonder if they’ll all stop and in synchronized unison do a wave and slap their asses like they’re all on second base. It would make a great TikTok video.
  7. I also just noticed that with the three games the Tigers play in San Diego in September, there’s an off day on Tuesday inserted into the middle of the series. On that day I hope no one gets arrested for getting into a fight at a strip club or something. Or they head down to Tijuana and do something dumb that makes headlines.
  8. I’m a sucker. I just shelled out an entire $22 to get the rest of the season for mlb.tv. And luckily, we’ve already played all the games with Seattle so I won’t suffer any blackouts. I do see we still have some Pacific time zone games with San Diego and Oakland on the schedule, times which I hate to endure, although for you in the Eastern Time Zone it really really sucks.
  9. Ha. Good catch. That is a pretty dopey thing to do. Might’ve been on purpose while horsing around. I remember the photographs of cards of Juan Marichal in the early 60s where he’s always wearing a rain slicker because the weather in Candlestick Park sucked. That may not have been horsing around. I don’t know if it’s a tall tale but I remember hearing that wind gusts could knock a pitcher off the mound there. Hard to believe it took three ballots for Marichal to get into the Hall of Fame.
  10. That looks like it could be Norm Cash standing behind him on the front of the card.
  11. Don was always there during my childhood love affair with the Tigers. Sorry to hear of his passing. The photos below are of his 1968 card, both front and back Donald Ralph Wert (July 29, 1938[1] — August 25, 2024[2]), nicknamed "Coyote",[3][4] is an American former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball from 1963 to 1971 as a third baseman, most prominently as a member of the Detroit Tigers where, he was an All-Star player and was a member of the 1968 World Series winning team.
  12. Don Wert died… 🤕
  13. It’s nice that we’re not particularly playing for anything other than seeing what the kids can do. Getting to .500 is, let’s face it, not something to organize a parade over. So it’s nice just to enjoy this last bit of the season for the pure baseballishness of it.
  14. If Cleveland, Kansas City and Minnesota keep playing at the same win percentage as they are now the Central will have three 90 win plus teams. Of course, a lot of this comes from beating up on the White Sox.
  15. Wow, that ballpark is really empty. Either everyone has already left or the fanbase is really religious and they all went to church today and stayed late.
  16. Let’s get another run because I like double figures.
  17. Automatic ball strike calling in the international league as a test. It favors offense to an extreme degree.
  18. Deadpool ass-slap two-run double for Keith.
