  1. No Matty is not that big a deal because we haven’t really had him much, although we need a live body out there, but losing Perez is a big deal.
  2. What’s the parlay on giving up two or more runs in the first inning? Just trying to be prepared.
  3. The whole world is hanging by a thread right now. It’s indecent to expend too much emotion on this situation I guess.
  4. And we did. And I’m not pitching a fit.
  5. I’m out I think…
  6. Jeez Louise this nailbiting stuff…
  7. So all this Hall of Fame talk, do these announcers know something we don’t, or are they just talking?
  8. I have nothing against an appreciation for the psychological and affective aspects of this game, but all of the chatter about “momentum“ rubs me the wrong way. I don’t think ball players or teams are empty vessels pushed around by statistical probability, but I’m not a big fan of the voodoo of “momentum“ either.
  9. So I’m wondering how much MLB teams are paying for the secret dossier on how to get first inning runs against Tigers starters?
  10. YouTube is spectacular for all sorts of things and I rely upon it daily. Facebook too has been great for staying in touch with friends I met in college over 50 years ago.
  11. Searches also take me there all the time for so many different things and I realized early on many years ago that it was a rabbit hole I could go down and from which I might have trouble escaping. And I had just then discovered the rabbit hole of this site and I knew I couldn’t afford to go down one more. I’m actually kind of amazed at the mature restraint I was able to show in the face of such a temptation.
  12. No Riley Greene in the lineup, at least the starting lineup, today.
  13. MATT VIERLING RF GLEYBER TORRES 2B JAHMAI JONES LF SPENCER TORKELSON 1B WENCEEL PÉREZ CF ANDY IBÁÑEZ ЗВ DILLON DINGLER DH JAVIER BÁEZ SS JAKE ROGERS C CHARLIE MORTON SP
  14. There are apps I’ve purposely never signed up for such as Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, because I am often looking at my phone hours a day and being seduced into doubling that time in an alternate reality is unwise.
  15. I no longer know what to expect, predict, or extrapolate, etc. My projections, hopes, or fears tend constantly to be thwarted by real outcomes that pay no heed to my fantasies. A former brother-in-law of mine once said, “Yew git watt yew git and yew don’t pich a fit.” I guess a broken clock is right twice a day and I think he might be right in this case. Whatever happens we’re going to get what we get.
  16. I didn’t realize this, but the cold hard part in my cinder of a heart takes comfort in this being his out of the gate performance for them. Some Tigers players said they would like him as an addition to the team, but as much as I enjoy the performances of our own players, I don’t necessarily think they have great insight into moves to make at the deadline that require a more strategic global take on matters in a 3-D chess kind of way than in a checkers sort of way. These guys are good at their respective crafts but they don’t have access to all the information that the generals in Command Central have access to.
  17. You put a lot of thought into this. Thank you. I wish I had gotten around a reading it sooner.
  18. I’m not in a position to listen to local sports radio from Detroit, but what you’re saying tends to make a lot of sense to me. And it’s the reason that a lot of sports commentary bores the heck out of me and is unlistenable.
  19. I’m not going to dump on Jonesy. I think we might be setting the bar too high for TV. He’s a personality just as Johnny’s a personality and Daniella is a personality. And he has played the game which they haven’t, but I don’t think baseball players necessarily make great analysts - period. In my mind, he’s not a lot worse than just about anyone else who’s a former player. A lot of former player analysts just fill dead air with something other than dead air. With that as a yard stick I don’t expect much. Ordinary fans don’t have a lot going on upstairs. As some recommend go on more public sites or go on X and you’ll see what I mean. Ordinary people want to see former “stars.“ That’s considered good broadcasting. I would prefer to see thoughtful, creative nerds, and if they wanted to wear suspenders and bowties, or propellers on top of their heads, that would be OK but that’s not considered good television.
  20. This team is sometimes like Colonel Kurtz‘s tortured soliloquy in Apocalypse Now where he describes his state of mind as being akin to a snail slithering along the sharp edge of a straight razor and surviving.
  21. Matty finally delivers. I no longer feel like Drano awash with tiny razor blades is flowing through my system. Instead it’s the sweetest wine mixed by beautiful girls in Ithaca as Odysseus looks on approvingly.
