I agree with this ruling. Maybe congress should take a crack at this. It is their job.

Congress takes a crack at bump stocks to what end? The Supreme Court didn't only overturn an executive order. They appealed to 2A. Any law congress would pass - and that's beyond imagination - would face the same appeal.

Until we gain some national sanity about 2A nothing is going to change, or be able to change.

This gets back to Kamil Nanjiani standup bit about the Koran saying that women shouldn't drive.

If in his estimation it actually did say that.  He knows two things:  Women shouldn't drive and everyone would be in the mosque right now.

The document written in the distant past does not take into account the advances of the future.   If there had been an amendment saying:  "A prosperous and happy life is made by the internal combustion engine; therefore the right to own and drive a car shall not be infringed."

People would lose their ever-loving minds if you introduced EVs because it went against the Constitutional right to drive an ICE.  They would lose their minds if you made them have car insurance.  They would lose their minds if you had to wear a seat belt because it would infringe on that right.

We definitely need personal liability insurance for firearms ownership.  Store your weapons in secure, safe condition.  Know how to operate the thing safely and responsibly.  And for God's sake, lets take them away from nutters and people on schedule 3 and higher drugs.

At least 9 people shot at a splashpad in Rochester Hills and it's not even news.

And that fact tells you nearly everything you need to know about the state of our society.

Didn't know about it until this morning.    I guess since the death count was only 1 - the shooter - it's not climbing the charts.     Next on this week's countdown, a six year old shoots a teacher in Virginia.  This 6 year old will speak at this year's Republican Convention, as this teacher was no doubt trying to indoctrinate this child into believing that littering is bad.

42 year old white male.  Lived at home with his mother.   His life probably wasn't where he wanted it to be.    Neither was mine when I was 42.   That was on me and nobody else.

But if you want to off yourself, do you really have to take a bunch of bystanders with you?

Yes, because it’s society you’re mad at, not yourself, and everybody is mocking you by having it better than you.

It’s also in part why young white males tend to be the predominant perpetrators of this kind of thing. They’ve been told all their lives that as white men, they are basically in charge because they are the highest up in the pecking order, and when they find out it’s not actually true, when they see that the rest of society is working against that idea, they are sorely disappointed, because no one told them there were limits. They were lied to, it’s just not right, and now someone has to die, goddammit.

sounds like someone's voting block, doesn't it?   (and the folks that like to separate politics from everything - don't tell me not to bring up politics in this thread, a terrorist group called the NRA is quite responsible for this, along with a system that treats mental health like it's contagious - mental health is usually a physical illness that can be treated if dealt with correctly.......we can fix this ****, but goddammit, it takes actual effort).

One thing about Trump - he has been staunchly pro-gun control.

He even banned bump stocks altho that has since been overturned by SCOTUS.

If you tell any Trumper that or show them the video above or the one below - they will deny the validity of the videos despite them showing Trump himself saying the words!

But the thing with Trump is that it doesn't really matter what he thinks about most things, because he doesn't really have much in the way of personal policy convictions. He doesn't really care about abortion personally either. The problem with Trump is that since all human relation is transactional to him, what you have to pay attention to is whose votes/money/support he will buy by backing their positions. And in Trump's case it's been staunchly anti-abortion evangelicals and RW 2nd amendment fanatics  that he has pulled into his coalition in return for legislative and judicial appointments supporting their causes.

In his heart (or whatever he has that substitutes for one) I'm sure he thinks the whole culture war is stupidity, but he's willing to be the vessel into which the culture warriors pour their support if it gets him power.
