RatkoVarda
NYT has a story about how Trump's own people - when he wanted to act after seeing polls showing huge support for gun control - did the same song and dance about "gee golly what's an assault rifle?" on him, until he just gave up On Second Amendment issues, Mr. Trump’s team often wore him down by burying him in the technical details of gun policy. Indeed, in the August 2019 conversation, when Mr. Trump suggested he wanted to find a way to ban assault weapons, Mr. Mulvaney asked how he defined them, according to the people in the room. Commonly, the term refers to a class of weapons including the AR-15 semiautomatic rifles regularly used in mass shootings. “Well, it’s the military weapons,” Mr. Trump responded. Legally, AR-15s are civilian versions of a military weapon that has been heavily regulated since the 1930s. “Mr. President,” Mr. Mulvaney shot back, “military assault weapons are already against the law.” The president abandoned the idea. The GOP is actively making policy that make these atrocious acts easier to commit. Wanna go one step further? Stipulate that the FGOP actually wants these acts to occur because it strengthens their pro-gun position by highlighting how liberals want to take everyone's guns away in response, which increases interest in the NRA, which increases gun sales, which increases lobby payoffs. Every sane person knows that slaughtering 10-year old children is wrong. Abortion is much less obvious because it rarely involves a human being that could exist outside the woman's body. There is no agreement at all as to whether abortion is murder. The majority of Americans think it isn't. It sure seems to me that some seem to think the murder of school kids is okay as long as gun rights aren't infringed upon.

I do feel in the U.S. a child is not safe in the womb or the classroom that should bother everyone. I get why people are disturbed by abortion. I am glad that I have never been faced with that decision or was responsible for someone else facing that decision. I think it's a serious issue, but it just isn't obvious to me that it's a child in there.

This country is very dangerous and the democrats and their policies are to blame. It will only get worse as long as they are in office. I'm not too worried because there is no way they are taking guns from people. Why shouldn't I be able to protect my access to my health and life and that of my family? If you're a legal gun owner, why are you opposed to a background check, a waiting period, proper identification?

If you're a legal gun owner, why are you opposed to a background check, a waiting period, proper identification? Where did I say I was opposed to those things? You are spreading false information but I understand that's normal operating procedure for liberals. Background checks and proper ID are already required. The background check sometimes take days and sometimes a few minutes so there can be a waiting period. If you hold a carry permit, you skip some of the paperwork. That is the process in Michigan. It varies by state. As for abortion, if the mother's life is in danger or the pregnancy is a result of rape then in my opinion an abortion is justified. Abortion should not be a form of birth control.

mtutiger
Brilliant move by the Gubner to schedule his press conference pivoting to recovery in Uvalde to run simultaneously with his pre-taped speech at the NRA Convention saying that nothing could have stopped this. Cynical as hell, but brilliant

smr-nj
So evidently Wayne LaPierre has upped the ante a bit. I believe he used to say that gun ownership was a second amendment right for all Americans. Now, he’s calling it a basic HUMAN right…A HUMAN RIGHT. If that’s not blasphemous I don’t know what is. Does he even understand what a human right is? Thoroughly disgusting.

Crazy Cat Gentleman
I'm sure there are a number of ways to give assistance to the Uvalde families. the one I know of is that First State Bank of Uvalde has set up an account for donations. check the big banner at the top of the page if you're interested: https://fsbuvalde.com/
