romad1 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 bsky on the United Healthcare CEO shooting has been the one time I've been a bit disappointment in its "antibodies" of that platform, because a lot of folks are leaning into the wrong narratives on that one. He can be a member of a distasteful class of people and a human being at the same time. Now, he's probably the Brent character from "The Good Place" (i.e., an unreconstructable born-on-third-base person with limited empathy) but, people hooting about someone finally putting some fear into the type of people who want to deny sick kids on chemotherapy anti-nausea meds, or anesthesia while you are under the knife (the Anthem news that was out there) is not a good trend. All that said, dude had a silencer on his pistol. That means he had a pistol that required a tax stamp. I'd be amazed if that isn't making the big data swoop on his identity much easier. Quote

The wall to wall coverage for the better part of a week is getting to be a bit much. A dude was targeted and shot. Suspect at large. Many such cases. Quote
pfife Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 My understanding is many social media sites including x and linked in are behaving similarly about the murder. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 When you work in an industry that routinely screws people over at their most vulnerable, don't be surprised with a desperate victim or family member of one lashes out. Just read a story about the denial of a life-altering surgery denied over and over because of precise wording -- even after pleas from doctors trying to save this teenage girl. It wasn't United Health Care, but they're all the same. Insurance is a racket and always has been. When guys with Italian names in striped suits do it it's considered illegal. Universal Health Care would eliminate much of that, but we all know that will never happen here. Oh yes, and the Canadian and English systems are far from perfect, but is anything actually perfect? Our system sure isn't. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Just saw some thing about what Diddy's life is probably like in jail - because he's housed in one of the worst jails in America. I was speculating to myself about how foolishly arrogant Diddy was. Not that I would ever behave in the way he did, but if I had heard the Feds were about to crack down on me, I'd have been on a plane to a country without extradition and I would have been bribing the head of that country to keep me there. Oh, I know he tried to escape, but he waited way too long. He thought he was untouchable, and my guess is that he'll Bribe Trump and Trump will pardon him, but the second I heard there was anything was up, I would have been gone. What about all the other big names that were part of the "Freak Offs"? Why aren't they being arrested? People knew about this **** for years. Edited December 8, 2024 by Motor City Sonics Quote

The level of concern for being targeted is very high among a stratus of people who think they are above reproach and for whom can buy ink by the barrel metaphorically. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 It will be interesting in the end (if it is solved) if this was really a revenge killing based on someone mad at UHC, or a professional job with a more esoteric motive (i.e. likely financial) set up to look just enough like a revenge job to generate that kind of assumption in the media coverage. Their twist would be that it was his cheating wife or his gay kid or his business rival but that they violated some procedural matter and the killer got off. Quote

IIRC there was an episode of Law and Order in which a man kills the insurance employee he saw as responsible for denying his child life-saving care. So maybe this was somebody who saw the episode and got the idea? I doubt it, but you really never know these days. Quote

It's always struck me that if you are going to kill someone in retribution, you want them to know it, and this guy was shot in the back, but the other take on that would be that in the end the killer decided he would lose his nerve if he faced him. 1 Quote

Who knows the motive, but it appeared to be quite planned and targeted. Quote

Hunter Biden and RFK Jr. had basically the same trajectory. Fail sons with drug problems. The RW propaganda machine is way more effective if you compare those two. Quote

And those idiots will probably get a Presidential Medal of Freedom. When Trump uses his powers to get himself out of jail or any sentence, I hear nothing from you. He's a Convicted Felon, he shouldn't even be allowed to serve. Quote

Joe was involved with Hunters dealings in Ukraine and pardoning Jr helps keep Joe out of trouble, why else would he set those particular years as parameters? Remember when Biden tried to be Brad Homes and traded a basketball player for Russian Viktor Bout with the catchey nickname "merchant of death". Such a republican thing to do..... Quote
