Despite the goose egg there were some positive signs with the offense namely only having 6Ks and drawing 3 walks. That's a step in the right direction I guess.

They really did make McClanahan work and had some decent ABs as well.

Getting shutout on Opening Day after all the shutouts last year still sucks tho

I did notice for the most part they had good approaches swinging at strikes. There was some flailing at times by Schoop, Haase and Baez in certain at bats. Overall they hit and walked as much as the Rays but couldn't cash in like the Rays did.

Hard to tell after one game, but this team looking a lot like 2003.  The good news is, the 2003 team became the 2006 team.  The yougsters need to show some progress, though.

McClanahan is pretty good, that match up was not likely to result in a Tigers win.  On to the next one.

We are gonna get off to a rough start because of our super-tough early schedule so we should remember that when we start out something like 12-28.

Yes, a .500 record through 40 games does not seem attainable, from looking at the schedule.  How many wins would be required for a successful first quarter...17 might be the number.

Positive signs. Pitching wasn't terrible - ERod was fine, Foley got the ground balls he was sent in to get but they found holes, Meadows got off the snide early, and Cabrera got around to pull a 93mph fastball down the LF line.

McCalanhan too much for them in general, but Schoop, Vierling and Kreidler particularly overmatched.

Sometimes the opposition is just too damn good.  McClanahan's baseball card suggests he has days like that.
