Mitch McConnell is 80 years old. He has 4 years left on his term. He may very well be done. He's accomplished his life's mission and got a conservative Supreme Court for the foreseeable future. The next majority leader from an all white state a fraction of the size of California will eliminate the filibuster to clear the way for an abortion ban.

No they don't. In a four year span, a Republican president who lost the election by 3 million votes got to nominate one third of the Supreme Court and it was confirmed by a majority senate that represented over 40 million fewer people. They don't have to walk a tight rope. A Democrat has to win a national election by at least 5 million votes now to have a chance at winning. Who gives a flying fuck about 12% of the population in California when Republicans just took over about 20 small rural states that have 10 times the senate representation. This system favors rural white states. People in California and New York and Illinois going out to vote means nothing. Their less American than the rancher in Wyoming and we haven't discussed the fact that DC has no senate representation and is larger than Wyoming, Vermont, and Alaska. Democrats have gone out and voted but even when they win they lose.

Republicans have a lot more wiggle room due to gerrymandering and the nature of the senate. They will always have 45-47 % of the legislative and governors. They could be actual Nazis, with swastikas and all,  and still have that.

I don't watch MSNBC but do you care to tell me anything incorrect in that post? Perhaps the pro life people who believe conspiracy theories of the election being stolen and CRT and groomers should be the ones to shut off Fox News and smell the roses.

The amount of deference to the percieved political aims of the GOP establishment on how they approach a post-Roe world, given how the past few years have gone, seems misguided to say the least. Particularly when one lives in a red state and has seen the legislation that has been pushed and enacted on this issue, it seems naive to trust the better judgment of national Republicans.

Not to mention, just a few years ago, Roe being overturned seemed far fetched, now it is reality... why should anyone trust McConnell here?

A better question may be that, if one feels as strongly on an issue as the most pro-life people feel about abortion (to the point of making no exceptions for rape or incest or, in a few cases, health of mother), why would they allow abortions to happen in states like Illinois or New York or California?

The only logical answer is that they will not stop pressuring the national party until they ban it everywhere.

Except for wealthy and powerful people. They will always have access to abortion.  Any judge, any congressperson, any President, any CEO, any major Evangelical chuch lerader will always have access.

In general, maybe it's just because it is so fresh, but there just hasn't been a lot of demand from the pro-life side of the aisle for practical policy answers that need to be known in a world without Roe v. Wade.

Starting to see that now with Jake Tapper's interview of the MS Governor, but it is totally fair to ask questions of pro-life pols and voters about whether there should be exceptions, whether contraception could be impacted, or whether women should be jailed for their decisions. Or discussions of the social safety net and the inherent contradiction that arises from continually advocating cuts.

Of course, straight answers are likely not forthcoming, but the questions are totally fair.
