Wouldn't find it surprising. Clarence Thomas has always transfered his large sense of grievance into a larger dose of entitlement.

The whole Thomas rebuttal is pure BS. Anyone with a grain of propriety would instinctively know that accepting free plane trips or vacations, even from a longtime "friend" should set off warning bells and whistles. Not to mention underwriting Thomas wife's Political Action Committee.
 

I've known smaller market reporters who have turned down the "Goodie" packages from PGA and LPGA tournament sponsors so not to be accused of favoritism.

He's a member of the country's highest court, and he doesn't understand that your "friend" offers you a gift, that it may not be technically wrong but perception matters just as much.

It was real bad, I was listening to that on cspan.    The details of the case make it so much worse.  Recommend latest episode of Amicus podcast for more discussion on it.
