There is a reason that the line in Bob Segar’s “Famous Final Scene” where he says autumn is closing in that hits hard for those who grew up in the North.  It’s the resignation that a particular kind of joy is about to end.

Meanwhile, living and running youth sports in the heat of Virginia, i welcome Fall.

That checks out with the map.

Here’s a great YouTube map showing locations of the top thirty restaurant chains. Even many of the national chains have a regional emphasis, notably Dunkin’.

Not really political but... I'll list the best ones to save you clicking to buzzfeed, which is ad intrusive.

Maine is the closest US state to Africa

If you travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean via the Panama Canal you go from East to west

Reno is as far North as Philly and further West than LA

Toronto is south of Minneapolis and on the same latitude as Monaco

If placed in North America, Chile would run from the tip of Southern Mexico to the middle of Manitoba

Australia is woder than the Moon

Holmes County, Ohio and Lagrange County, Indiana.  Hefty Amish populations.

I'm in Lagrange County, Indiana.  I have always heard that it is the highest percentage of population outside Lancaster County, PA.  I would also say that they are probably not counting the vehicles owned by the kids in the household, because those numbers are pretty high.

May be an image of map and text

Michigan you would think would be higher because of the border w/Canada.  Its on par with Virginia which is obviously a place with a lot of people who travel for the government.   Look at Cali... woof.

r/MapPorn - Distribution of the first two digit zip codes in the United States [680x1000]

Non-political, but I just saw this map recently... thought it was illogical for years as to how the numbering was dispersed (not purely east west but, apparently, snaked around the US through states grouped as units.

In Michigan, you can get an enhanced driver's license and don't need a passport to go to Canada.

FIrst two digits for zip codes (three digits for areas outside the Lower 48); first two digits correlate with the state you live in.

I wonder if that arrangement gave a better alignment between the difference in the zip code and the postage rate between zones.

ahh...so the relatively higher number must be because of business travel to Europe/Japan/Korea for the automation/auto industry.

Kind of wild how Memphis, TN is 37501 and West Memphis, Arkansas is 72301.
