The Mets have a loaded lineup that will blow up a lot of pitchers. And offenses need to do more than these guys have done thus far to keep up. RandyMarsh
I simply refuse to believe this dude's family birth surname is legit "Yacabonis" somebody along the line just had to completely make that up.

Just to follow this up I decided to google that name and from what I can gather only 8 people in the entire world have that last name so yeah maybe I was right about his Grandparents just making up a last name and deciding to stick with it. RandyMarsh
I guess it says more about the other two than anything but Baez has now passed Tork and Greene in OPS.
kdog
Torkelson has 600 major league at-bats and a .598 OPS. Good stuff.

Right, because all eight of them are in the United States.

kdog
You see successful organizations get production out of top draft picks. They also get production out of 'found money' prospcects who come out of nowhere. Tigers are getting below average/bad production from their top prospects and no found money outliers. It's a confluence of bad development, bad luck, and an owner who can't be shamed into to doing anything about it.

They can't even be neutral players. They are both bad hitters at this point. Both were sure things to be at least decent.

I would also stipulate that Chris Ilitch was definitely shamed into canning Al Avila, too, not because Avila was incompetent per se, but because his incompetence was (finally) making Baby Doc look bad. It didn’t matter so much that the team was losing and the organizational infrastructure dissolved into shambles as long as the money kept rolling in, but once the national writers, led by Ken Rosenthal god bless him, started absolutely filleting the the entire organization from the owner on down, that’s what finally got the owner to act. kdog
Bad design is needing Greene and Tork to be all stars immediately to save your job. They might have saved Al if they were average players last year. Bad luck is Skubal and Mize getting hurt and Greene/Tork being below replacment level hitters.

Bad design led to the bad developmental processes that led to their once-great and promising hitting going down the toilet. We are only one regular season month beyond it now, and in no universe was all of it going to be totally fixed by now. We can blame the players for it all if we like—that’s a fan’s prerogative. Me, I’m going to give them until next year to start showing us the consistency we have been counting on them to provide us. If they’re still like this by the end of next season, I’ll jump on your bandwagon.

Do we know that Skubal and Mize weren’t hurt because of the prior regime’s poor processes? I don’t I think I know that.

I mean, yeah, that's probably the case, at least to an extent. I think you and I are probably more in alignment on this than others around here, but they were never fixing all the systemic problems in one offseason.
