I wonder if the laymen fan really knows what a good and bad OPS is by this point? Like everybody knows what a good BA is(even though that threshold has been getting lower and lower in recent years) but they may not know with OPS so if they see the 500 and 600s they may not realize that it's below average where as you can't hide that with BAs in the 100s and low 200s.

Even in one game, as long as you see all the numbers for both teams you're going to get a really quick idea what the ranges are.

On TV, they show the league average. Most Tigets are well below it.

I don’t think they know what a good OPS vs a bad OPS is. I would be willing to bet that over half of all baseball fans have never heard of OPS. I am amazed to this day when I find a baseball fan who still hasn’t heard of Baseball Reference, but I think there are more of those folks out there than we deep baseball fans who’ve used it for two decades can imagine.

yeah, I think only a small percentage of fans, especially older ones, know what OPS is.  Awareness of advanced stats has increased remarkably in online communities in the past dozen years or so, but when I talk to fans in real life, most of them are still in the 20th century with respect to baseball stats.
