Mr.TaterSalad Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Do we know the conditions of the pick yet? Seeing any speculation out there about it? Quote

lordstanley Posted July 10, 2023 Author Posted July 10, 2023 No retention on Kubalik, i believe. I bet the Wings were pushing as hard as the Sens were for him to be imciuded. Quote
lordstanley Posted July 10, 2023 Author Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2023/07/09/detroit-red-wings-trade-alex-debrincat-ottawa-senators-4-year-contract-extension/70385254007/ Yzerman sent Dominik Kubalik, prospect Donovan Sebrango, a conditional first-round pick and a fourth-round pick in 2024 to the Ottawa Senators. The Wings can choose between their own or Boston's first-round pick, which is from the Bertuzzi trade and top-10 protected. DeBrincat's resume shows his scoring prowess: 41 goals each in 2018-19 and 2021-22; 32 goals in 50 games in 2020-21 (the pandemic-shortened season); at least 20 goals in five of six NHL seasons. He has 187 goals and 373 points in 450 games. He has 11 goals and 30 points in 23 career games against the Wings. Edited July 10, 2023 by lordstanley Quote

buddha Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 i actually think that's a fair trade for both teams. Quote

Some of the folks on HF Boards were calling it a robbery and while I do think the 1st round pick protections are definitely to our benefit, I think it's still a decently balanced trade for Ottawa. Shinzaki Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) DeBrincat may have said "not signing anywhere but Detroit"...that would have made it difficult to maximize the return Edited July 10, 2023 by Shinzaki Quote
jz68 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Only signed him for 4 years? Dude must really want to be here. Quote
buddha Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 enough to make them a playoff team? probably not unless there is some big time growth from their prospects this year. but theyre getting better. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Great work by Yzerman, love every part of this. I’m guessing DeBrincat wouldn’t sign any longer without it being $8 million+ and I’m fine with this resolution. Outside of the first round pick, the Wings probably didn’t give up anything they had real future plans for. I’m excited to see our roster in action next season. Quote
jz68 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 4 years is a great deal unless Debrincat kills it. Then we're going to be wishing he had been signed for 8 years at 9 million per. Quote
Shinzaki Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 This is a playoff contending team....we've added size and scoring and it didn't cost us any of our top prospects. Great offseason for SY Quote
Hart Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 You got to imagine we had some leverage here and Debrincat would not have taken this same deal with Ottawa. That said, we deserve a break and I don't feel a bit guilty after all the bad luck we have had in the lottery. Quote
