I have Boston, Toronto and Carolina as shoo-ins to make the playoffs. There is no other team I would be shocked to see miss in the East.

How in the world can Toronto be almost $9 million over the cap and even consider acquiring Karlsson and his $11.5 million salary? San Jose would have to agree to retain some of that salary and send back a high priced player like Nylander in return. Even then, would the numbers work?

 The Leafs should trade Nylander for picks and prospects. Whatever they can get, even if not comparable value, as his salary comes right off the cap and they can re-allocate it towards defense. Doesn’t have to be Karlsson.

He will not be returning...he announced his retirement this AM
