buddha Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 pittsburgh is going to have one of the best offensive fives and power plays in the league. the REST of the team? hmmm... but its kyle dubas. score score score. defense is for suckers. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 San Jose has needed to rebuild for the longest time. To fully complete a rebuild they needed to get out of their high-priced contracts and get draft capital. This is a good deal for them it seems. BTW, I L-O-V-E those new teal jerseys of they have. Those are some of my favorite jerseys in sports. Those and their inaugural teal and silver jerseys. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 It is always funny to me when non-tough hockey players do goon **** outside of the game for some reason. I am guessing there is more context here. Sprong has a reputation as an asshole (at least from his Pittsburgh days and he doesn't seem to stick with any team very long) but it seems odd for him to just randomly assault someone... Quote

lordstanley Posted August 15, 2023 Author Posted August 15, 2023 Good riddance, if the Wings had scored in overtime instead the Wings and Leafs would both have 12 Cups each. Broken leg? Pfft, probably a bruised ankle. slothfacekilla Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Wings trade for Jeff Petry, hometown boy comes home way too late ugh. Gave up Lindstrom and a conditional 4th round pick but I don't really see the need for this. Quote

And Montreal is picking up 50% of the $ Quote

Hopefully Petry doesn't sulk if the Wings are losing like he did in Montreal. Quote
lordstanley Posted August 15, 2023 Author Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) A pretty meh move. Like Drown said, it would have been bigger news a few years ago. But gave up little and paying him little after retention, so fine. Edited August 15, 2023 by lordstanley Quote
Shinzaki Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Gustav just wasn't strong enough to be effective Quote
buddha Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 gustav was not an nhl regular. in many cases not even an nhl caliber player. stevie loves his veteran physical defensemen. its only for 2.3m for 2 years. my only concern is if were getting into ken holland territory if letting some of the prospects overcook in the minors. or.... there's another move coming that ships out some of those defense prospects. It is a shame I thought he would develop a bit more, he has a decent first pass out of the zone and excels at getting his shot on net through traffic.....otherwise nada. 21 minutes ago, buddha said: gustav was not an nhl regular. in many cases not even an nhl caliber player. stevie loves his veteran physical defensemen. its only for 2.3m for 2 years. my only concern is if were getting into ken holland territory if letting some of the prospects overcook in the minors. or.... there's another move coming that ships out some of those defense prospects. I can sorta see some logic in that Petry and say...Holl will have much more defensive roles compared to Edvinsson and Wallinder's early seasons while the old guys are still around. Still not much room for the young kids sadly, but my guess is Gostisbehere is probably more of an obstacle to the two young d coming up because they'll need to be sheltered. I do feel your concern though, I would love to see the young guys get time and it seems like it'll be tough this season. Quote
1984Echoes Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) Petry will be a good transition guy (better than Lindstrom) to get from Seider + ___???___ to Seider + Hopefully Tuomisto & Pellika... and Gibson? Anton Johansson? (Sorry... I'm talking futures here... Holl & Petry are the transition guys to get us to our future hopeful right-side D's...) Edited August 15, 2023 by 1984Echoes Quote

If my math is right, only about $1.3mm per year more than his current cap hit. A lot of Leafs and media are griping because they don’t think there was enough trade off in terms of a lower salary in exchange for the the shorter term than the Leafs had wanted I think they’re missing the big picture though. Matthews has no obligation to take a hometeam discount and there is probably one team who would have given him more money next summer. The Leafs’ window would have been closing if this was Matthews’ last year unless one has confidence Treliving would have deployed the cap savings wisely. Edited August 24, 2023 by lordstanley Quote
