Every year I make predictions and then review them at the end.  There’s no evidence of my predictions this year, so you will have to take my word that these were them.

 

Miguel Cabrera

2021 Actual – 472 AB | .256/.316/.386 | 15 HR | 75 RBI | 0 SB | 40 BB | 118 K

My most accurate prediction.  It’s all downhill from here.

 

Jonathan Schoop

2021 Prediction – 425 AB | .240/.281/.409 | 19 HR | 61 RBI | 1 SB | 20 BB | 109 K

2021 Actual – 623 AB | .278/.320/.435 | 22 HR | 84 RBI | 2 SB | 37 BB | 133 K

A lot more playing time and a lot more productive than I had thought.  Glad he’s here for another 2 years.

 

Spencer Turnbull

2021 Prediction – 157 2/3 IP | 9-8 W/L | 4.11 ERA | 1.395 WHIP | 159 K | 71 BB

2021 Actual – 50 IP | 4-2 W/L | 2.88 ERA | 0.980 WHIP | 44 K | 12 BB

Who predicted the no-hitter this year?  Too bad he needed Tommy John surgery. 

 

Jeimer Candelario

Huh, he led the league in doubles.

 

Matt Boyd

2021 Prediction – 171 IP | 7-12 W/L | 5.11 ERA | 1.374 WHIP | 158 K | 59 BB

2021 Actual – 78 2/3 IP | 3-8 W/L | 3.89 ERA | 1.271 WHIP | 67 K | 23 BB

Believe it or not, this is the first time Boyd’s ERA has been under 4.00.

 

Robbie Grossman

2021 Prediction – 474 AB | .247/.342/.439 | 17 HR | 56 RBI | 15 SB | 66 BB | 110 K

2021 Actual – 557 AB | .239/.357/.415 | 23 HR | 67 RBI | 20 SB | 98 BB | 155 K

Grossman led the team in HR.  One of 10 players to have a 20/20 season last year.

 

Tarik Skubal

2021 Prediction – 125 1/3 IP | 7-5 W/L | 4.02 ERA | 1.205 WHIP | 146 K | 36 BB

2021 Actual – 149 1/3 IP | 8-12 W/L | 4.34 ERA | 1.259 WHIP | 164 K | 47 BB

Believe it or not, after 24 games (22 starts), Skubal had a 4.02 ERA in 123 innings.

 

Willi Castro

2021 Prediction – 508 AB | .272/.315/.423 | 15 HR | 73 RBI | 4 SB | 30 BB | 140 K

Fun fact: whenever I’m overly optimistic about someone, they never have a good year.

 

Wilson Ramos

It's not like it was hard to predict a bad year from Urena. 

 

Nomar Mazara

2021 Actual – 165 AB | .212/.276/.321 | 3 HR | 19 RBI | 0 SB | 15 BB | 45 K

Julio Teheran

2021 Prediction – 173 1/3 IP | 8-10 W/L | 4.88 ERA | 1.385 WHIP | 135 K | 84 BB

2021 Actual – 5 IP | 1-0 W/L | 1.80 ERA | 1.400 WHIP | 3 K | 3 BB

Injuries are always the hardest to predict.  Thank God Mize and Peralta were as good as they were and Manning had flashes of success.

 

That’s it.  No predictions for Yabba Dabba Doo, Goodrum, Haase, Mize, Peralta, or Manning.

Thanks!  I've been doing them since 2008 on the old MLB.com Detroit Tigers forum.  I've thought about stopping them, but they are fun to do.  Especially when other people chime in with their own predictions.
