msu officially notifies tucker he is being fired.

man, tucker totally let msu off the hook for that stupid contract.  this is their get out of jail free card.

I liked this line from Haller's statement though:

"The unprofessional and unethical behavior is particularly egregious given that the Vendor at issue was contracted by the University for the sole purpose of educating student-athletes on, and preventing instances of, inappropriate sexual misconduct"

I guess Tuck would have been fine if he had managed to engage in some appropriate misconduct.

🤷‍♀️

Well, notifies him that they are going to try to fire him. Now he has to hope his lawyers win more than his football team.

This is a huge embarrassment for MSU but in the grand scheme of things this is just a football coach behaving badly.

As an institution, it’s not like it was the University President who was caught in an inappropriate sexual relationship with someone who worked for him.  Can you imagine a situation of having to fire the man in charge of everything for being a creeper.   Now something like that would be a major stain toward the reputation of a university and their administration.

LOL - Problems of the 1%ers. I imagine if Schlissel were just a middle class schmuck he and his wife would probably already be divorced and he could just have married his girlfriend, but probably too much money at play for such a simple solution.

I feel like there is a pervert in every major program.  It's frightening.

There is some simple formula that -- perhaps defined by some future or past Nobel Prize winner -- that the degree to which an institution affords power to an individual -- while lacking accountability via transparency equals risk of sexual abuse.

I can't think of many scandals at my school on this front. There were some football players in the 2016 timeframe who were quickly booted from the team after an incident in this regard. A women's basketball coach in the 90's was fired after there were rumored sex parties involving players at her house. There's been a couple pervy faculty members, and the person who replaced bin Laden on the Most Wanted List was a graduate; not involved in sports, but a bad bad teacher.

#NotALawyer but...

Wouldn't the statement Mel put out last week be cause for termination on its own?

yes

Haller also noted a combative public statement Tucker issued through his attorney last Monday as another example of him breaking his contract. Tucker's contract said he must "keep positive and constructive in tone any public comments about University policies." In the statement, Tucker called a pending hearing about sexual harassment claims a "sham."

If true that Michigan State knew the details of the allegations early this year but only took action after it became public, that's a really bad look for the people running that place.

They were letting the Title IX process play out. It is true, but that is a distortion. The school's Title IX department handled it, but the Athletic Department was separate until the hearing per the policies.

If that were true, they would have let the process play out, that means waiting until after the October hearing.  You can't defend them saying they were letting things play out when the process is still ongoing.
