It would be helpful in evaluating Torkelson's defense. He’s definitely had more than his fair share of attempts at it.
Clinkeroo
Or, Short flubbed two easy throws and a routine ground ball.
Tiger337
Torkelson leads the majors in scoops by a lot: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=0&month=0&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=&enddate=&season1=2023&season=2023&sortcol=15&sortdir=desc&pagenum=1 What this doesn't show is exactly how many opportunities he had to make scoops but failed, although I assume those would show up as errors much of the time. What it probably does show is that he had a lot of opportunities and was successful many times.
MIguy
There is a stat that keeps track of "Scoops" made by the first baseman and Tork has the most. I guess it could mean that since he apparently deals with the most bad throws it makes sense that he would have so many misses. All I know is that he's second from last in fielding percentage for first basemen. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?lg=all&qual=y&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&season1=2023&season=2023&stats=fld&pos=1b&type=0&sortcol=20&sortdir=desc&pagenum=

They all are between 99.1% and 99.9%.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. However, maybe hate is too strong a word. People are obviously overly critical of a 23 year old we rushed to the majors.
