Landman is a fantastic series, really gives you the prospective of the oil bussiness in the Permian Basin.

Oil isn't going away - that's simplistic thinking, which both sides engage in because both are mostly economically and/or technically ignorant. The question is how much oil is needed. Sure, the whole world stops without lubricants but you can make all the lubricants the world needs with a tiny % of current oil consumption. We didn't kill all the horses because we started driving cars. There will be be things that still need oil, but most cars won't and cars are about 70% of today's oil market.

we trudged through the next to last episode of The Bear last night... we actually forgot all about it.  At first we thought Hulu was broken because we're seeing Scorsese talk about stuff.  I stopped it and went backt to make sure I didn't pick the wrong thing.

I get that maybe the writers and producers were caught off guard with a third season.  But man....  this was like having to finish The Walking Dead.  I cared about the characters and want to see what happens but i was glad when an ad popped up because watching Carmy just stare at a dish for 3 minutes while REM played was boring....  It's almost like they were ****ing with us.  Like fake art.   "Let's just have him bend over and poke at this thing and play a cool song.... they'll say it's brilliant"

I don't feel so bad now for crapping out in the second episode of the first season.

A couple of series I can recommend:

A Man on the Inside (Netflix): This might be the best-ever series Mike Schur's done. It's a rather droll comedy, but it's also an examination of the ethics of doing undercover detective work. Despite how that might make it sound, it's not at all boring, and it has practically a surfeit of heart.

Funny Woman (PBS): The premise is a plucky young beauty queen from the sticks moving to London to try to make it as a comedian a la Lucille Ball on 1960's British TV. This is an almost guilty pleasure in that it's not quite to the level of prestige TV, and it's definitely written for young women (e.g., before-its-time female empowerment, hunky boyfriend left behind, hooking up with beautiful men, romantic tension with the attractive boss). But it's good enough to stick with if you like the basic premise, which I do. The show isn't just like Mrs. Maisel, and definitely not as good, but it is in the neighborhood, and an easy watch.

I agree, we enjoyed it. It's not as grating as Murders in the Building. But a very good surrounding cast and a heartfelt look at topics like elder loneliness and dementia.

Yes, I disliked Murders in the Building, for one thing because I don't like mysteries per se, but for another, it's a vehicle more or less for Martin Short, who I can take maybe 15 minutes of before I run away screaming.

The other thing was Danson's interactions with the other residents. As I said a good supporting cast and really no over the top characters (maybe a couple)

President Susan was probably over the top, but she was a hoot.

Tommy's wife in Landman gives me huge Tammy Taylor (FNL TV show) vibes.  She is also the least interesting character and gets way too much screen time.

Never been on the production side of breast feeding.  But beer producing more milk seems suspicious.

Has Demi Moore's career tanked?  She is basically a background character.  I don't even think she spoke this episode.  Ariana's dog had more screen time.

Curb stomping the bosses son seems like a bad career choice.

I'm doing a rewatch of Better Call Saul.  I watched it during it's original run but only that time.  I've done Breaking Bad probably 3 times total including this past year.

I liked it a lot the first time, maybe more than BB, but understood why others maybe didn't like it as much.  The second time I'm enjoying it more because I don't have the lingering questions/distractions about what happens to everybody and hunting for easter eggs.

The show in some ways reminds me of a great rock band that had some top hits and 2 members decide to go off on their own with some others and do things just for themselves.  People will either get it or not but they don't care.  BCS relied more on plot devices and camera shots and all of that.... like the production team was having some fun with inside tricks.  I wrapped up season 1 plus 2 into season 2 over my 4 day weekend.  hope to finish it during the 2 week break.

Love Bill Bob, his one liners are second to none.

25 years ago today In Excelsis Deo aired.  Always in my discussion for favorite WW episode.

Toby used the Presidents name to arrange a color guard for a homeless vets funeral.  The President asks him if he's worried if all homeless vets will come out of the woodwork if we keep pulling strings like this.  Toby has a great response that always gets me.  "I can only hope so."

Also love in a different part of the episode when Mrs Landingham tells Charlie about her boys.

Do yourself a favor and watch some WW.

Agree. I also make it a point this time of year to watch the episode where Josh deals with his PTSD from getting shot, also set around Christmas. Noel.
God I loved this show.

That was also a great episode.  Adam Arkin did a nice job.

Ted Danson and Michael Schur reunite from their time together on "The Good Place" to do a very nice show called "Man on the Inside" where Danson goes undercover inside a retirement home.  Good mix of drama and comedy.  Sally Struthers is in this!  Also look for cameos from Janet from the Good Place (small one) and Pillboi.

yes Leo's line   "but I've been down here before and I know the way out".

We can only dream it could be like this in real life.   Too bad it's closer to House Of Cards.

I should mention I'm watching the early SNL's and really enjoy the music.

Are they showing the music acts now? They did not before and I assumed it was because they wouldn‘t pay the rights fee for it? Because if they show the music acts now, there are numerous SNLs I want to go back and rewatch.

The early episodes, they are (first two seasons at least. That's where I am). I know the Peacock streams of a lot of the 2000's eras are like 20 minutes because of rights issues.

I made a spotify playlist to add songs as I come across them in my binge (if available):

Modern Marvels was a favorite of mine on the History Channel.  Turns out their official Youtube page has a playlist of complete episodes to watch.

Don't sleep on Youtube for things to watch.

an update on my BCS rewatch....

I've just started season 5.  Season 4 ended with Jimmy getting reinstated and he decides to use the Saul Goodman name.

It's still true that I forgot many details of the various plotlines.  I remembered what happened obviously but this show like BB is big on how things happened and it's those pieces I forgot which makes it all so entertaining again the second time around.

And one thing that jumped out at me after watching BB 3 or 4 times and now doing BCS for the 2nd time.... the whole universe existed as it did for us because those skateboard scammers jumped on his car, and then later on Tuco's grandma drove by instead of Mrs Kettleman.
