I saw it suggested somewhere that Tony Dalton should star in a Joker movie or series but instead of the dark version they make it similar to Cesar Romero’s portrayal on the Batman TV show.

Over 25 years after it debuted, I finally made it through The Sopranos. I already knew how it ended since it was widely publicized at the time and yeah it did leave a lot to be desired. I'm thinking the next show I'm going to watch that everybody else has already watched will be The Wire.

I never watched The Wire but when people talk about the best shows ever it seems that it's always Sopranos/Breaking Bad/The Wire.

I finished my rewatch of Better Call Saul.  As I said I thought it was a lot better the second time around as I knew the overall arc but I forgot a lot of the smaller details so it felt fresh.  The stuff at the end though was boring to me, when we get to Gene and he's working with guys setting up the scams.  It didn't interest me.   The Howard thing was just as shocking and in some ways worse b/c you knew what would happen. Really that was the end of the show as that is when Jimmy and Kim split up and Jimmy became full blown Saul.  No need to linger on at that point as it wasn't about Saul Goodman being Saul Goodman, but about how Saul came to be.

But the scene with Carol Burnett where Jimmy/Saul/Gene is appraoching her after she outs him and he's got the phone cord and wrapping it around his hand... that might have been the most chilling in the entire BB universe.  What would he have done if she didn't have her medic alert thing?  We never saw that character kill.  Would he have?

The Wire is worth every second.

I was in the same boat as Oblong and it got to the point where I just felt The Wire was too old for me to truly appreciate it.  I figured I missed my chance.  During Covid, I hunkered down and watched it and I learned it was worth being mentioned as one of the greatest.

There's just so much to watch it's hard to keep up.  I spent the last month or so on Severance so we're caught up on that.  But we only have bandwidth for about 90 minutes a day.   And my wife has this strange unspoken belief that it's not ok to watch TV before 8 pm.  SHe thinks it means we're being lazy b/c "there's always something that could be done".  I don't get it.

Paradise on Hulu has unexpectedly turned out to be fantastic.    They are going to re-release it on ABC in April.

Here they must have mated with the browns.  And I think there must have been some mating with rabbits because I swear I don't remember squirrels jumping like that.  Maybe it was genes of the black squirrels.  I heard they are more athletic.

Hey, can you blame the brown squirrels? Black squirrels are just so goddamn sexy.

If you're not watching The Pitt, you are missing what might end up being in the conversation for greatest medical drama of all time. It can be a little hard to follow and you will miss a quarter of what they say because of the thick medical jargon—closed captions is an absolute must—but there is no show you can name that breaks through with more verisimilitude and humanity than The Pitt.

I'm a big wrestling fan and WWE fan. As a wrestling fan we've gotten to witness the bad guy turn of John Cena who was a good guy for the longest time in the WWE. His promo last night on Monday Night RAW was ****ing great.

It is excellent.  It was initially supposed to be an ER reboot (John Wells is attached as EP) and Noah Wyle was going to be John Carter.    But Michael Crichton's estate nixed it, so they moved it to a different city and changed Wyle's character.  Not only the name, but other details as well.   The Crichton estate is suing.   So that means any TV show that centers around an ER is automatically theirs now?  I don't think so.      It's excellent and I don't mind the medical jargon, I worked at a hospital for a decade and know some of it, but a lot of it is newer too, the reason for a new reboot is how things have changed in 10 years.   What I don't know, I look up and I love that.   They are not dumbing it down.    Thanks for that.  Too many dumbed down TV shows on as it is.

It would be hilarious if old ER cast member started popping up in cameos as an F-You to Crichton's estate for the lawsuit.   They were pretty loyal to John Wells.

I loved that they brought up the Freedom House Ambulance Service.      They were the true first paramedics, but they were staffed by black medics in black neighborhoods so it took a long time for them to get recognized.   The Pitt is doing a great job of being about Pittsburgh.   A ton of little details.

The level of detail in Better Call Saul was incredible.    That's one of the things that makes it so great - that they cared SO MUCH about that.

Plus the editing in that show was better than any series or TV movie ever.

0 Emmy wins.    I don't understand that.

Actors get nominated for specific episodes.  The producers submit one episode for a character per season.   The fact that Michael McKean didn't even get a nomination at any time is actually criminal.    The Chicanery episode alone was amazing.   He's one of the most underappreciated actors of all time.   It's like they're using the fact he was Lenny Kosnowski in Laverne & Shirley against him.  The characters were silly, bu he was great in that too.   Looking forward to Spinal Tap 2 and hope they didn't wreck their legacy.   There are too many smart people wrapped up in that to think that it'll be bad.   I can't see Christopher Guest agreeing to do it if it was bad.

I thjnk Emmy voters suffer from a serious case of groupthink. Zero creativity.   The flip side to BCS’s goose egg is when others get the awards repeatedly.

The Wire is catnip for people in the investigative field.   They don't make the crooks out to be infallible but they also learn from the moves the cops make.   To quote Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (also a great series in this genre) everyone is a half-angel fighting a half-devil.

Because of the ages of my kids I went through a period where I missed out on some great shows.  Just didn't have time. From around 2006-2013. Always had stuff going on in the evenings and by the time we finished it all, it was 9 pm and we were tired. When Better Call Saul was announced we decided to binge BB to be on target.  Mad Men and The Wire are two shows I really want to get into but there's too much stuff now to stay on top of.  We started The Leftovers and also want to go back to that and finish off, especially after watching Severance and White Lotus.

And White Lotus... damn.  Started slow but this last week was legendary.  I like that show because it's easy to watch.  I love severance but it works the mind.  That's good.  But I like the Sunday night vibe of White Lotus, you can chill and enjoy the troubles of the uber rich without having to concentrate and pay attention to every detail.  There's a place for style.

We've been on a BBC/PBS Masterpiece kick lately. Currently rewatching Foyles War. Basically a police drama set in WWII. It holds up well, and especially cool watching younger versions of actors who show up later with their own "Masterpiece/BBC Dramas"

Also rewatching Wolf Hall, based on the Hilary Mantel novels about Thomas Cromwell and Henry VII. Getting caught up because The third novel "The Mirror and the Light" is coming to PBS this fall. Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis are fantastic as Cromwell and King Henry.

Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis could read the phonebook and it would be good watching.   I'm down.
