I finished Ozarks a while back but felt she would enjoy it so I watched it again with her. She really likes it and calls it one of her all time favs now. If you have not watched it (Still one season to be released) you should. My wife used to work a similar shift. She would be getting home from work and I would be getting ready for work...I get hoe from work and she was on her way to work. She also likes Ozark, I never watched it. Quote

I usually watch shows in the original language with English subs. Seems unlikely that I should choose the English dub for this. I was going to search it myself, but don't want to stumble on any spoilers... Apparently the default subtitle is English (CC) which often is a looser translation that differs on who is doing the translated, where it is coming from, etc. Make sure to switch it to English without the CC and the translation is supposed to be much more accurate and based off the script. I guess they still Americanize a few things for the translation but it is way better. I heard the English dub is TERRIBLE but I never watch dubs. Quote

1984Echoes Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Has anyone seen Halt and Catch Fire? Most known to me is Lee Pace but there are 4 main characters centering around the developments of the PC, Laptops, online gaming, Internet, etc... And the drama and characters are off-the-charts amazing. It's less about computers, etc. and more about the characters themselves. I'm starting season 4 (out of 4) and I am completely transfixed. It's a great show (Netflix...). 1 Quote

chasfh Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) Correct: anything that started in the 20th Century is not eligible. Well, at least theoretically: the list includes Curb and Gilmore Girls, both of which started in 2000, which was the last year of the 20th Century. Edited October 27, 2021 by chasfh Quote

Shades of Deivi Cruz Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 I was with my parents and some aunts/uncles over the weekend. They got to talking about the shows they watch (Grey's, Million Little Things, Young Sheldon), and bemoaning that "nothing was on last night". This conversation really threw me, because I realized how little (none, actually) "network" TV I watch. (I mostly watch HBO and AMC shows, besides things on Netflix/Hulu.) And it boggled my mind that anyone would be watching shows as they aired, instead of things they had recorded (or on-demand/streaming). I honestly think the last network show I watched live on a regular basis was Lost, and even then we would start it 20 minutes late so we could fast-forward through the commercials. Quote
oblong Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 I hear that every year around the Emmys from my mother in law. “What are these shows? I never heard of any of them. Who are these people?” Quote

1984Echoes Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 4 hours ago, Shades of Deivi Cruz said: ... and bemoaning that "nothing was on last night"... I've gotten into purchasing the complete series of some shows just to have it on hand and available whenever I want it. (Especially if it is no longer on Netflix). One dastardly example is Star Trek Voyager, which I was just in the middle of season 3 when they cancelled it on Netflix so I bought the complete series to finish it at my convenience... I like the personal library aspect of it... and the lack of commercials. So series I never saw or only a few episodes that I never had time to follow up on: The Americans. Mad Men. Two series that I really want to see (both then & now) but never had the time... I bought the complete set and, some day, will spend the time to watch everything. Quote
Biff Mayhem Posted November 27, 2021 Author Posted November 27, 2021 Finished episode one of Get Back. I don’t want to post spoilers but I absolutely loved it. So interesting to watch them work and see the genius. It was pretty much a dysfunctional family at that point with Paul being the dad trying to hold it together. Quote

I’ve been waiting on this for months as well and it was even better than I hoped. Amazing to witness their songwriting process. It definitely makes me wonder about the meanings of songs and their lyrical content. There’s an assumption from fans of most bands that every word of their favorite songs are carefully crafted and unusual parts have deep ulterior meanings. Turns out many times they just find something that fits in with the music and the few lines they already had and just add it on the fly because it sounds good in the moment. I did like how they reference Clapton and his long solos and improvisation and since Jam music and bands didn’t really exist, they just call this Jazz. I did enjoy the subtle comment about “chemical tea” and the ensuing session where it’s obvious they have been taking LSD. Incredible at some of those experiential sessions and the massive smiles they all have. This was a time shortly after Yoko had a miscarriage. The two of them had been heavily into heroin for most of 1969 but I think they were clean at that time afterwards. There also may have been some sympathy from the band for her that wasn’t there prior but i assume we will get more on this in other episodes. I really want you watch episode 2 right now but it’s too early to get in the proper head space. Tonight for sure. Edited November 27, 2021 by Hongbit 2 Quote

Shades of Deivi Cruz Posted December 7, 2021 Posted December 7, 2021 This week's Succession was great. Shiv is just the absolute worst, and that's an incredibly high bar. Her conversation with Tom was chilling enough, but then added to it at the end with Gerri. So manipulative, but with a twinkle in her eye. UGH! Quote
