Between Chris McCoskey and Evan Woodbery, they seem way more interested in covering people that are no longer on the Tigers than the actual team. Beat writers are obsolete. I can’t imagine many scenarios where an active player needs them or uses them. They are outsiders and MLB has their own staffs and that of their TV and radio partners. Players are walking corporations and don’t hang out in smoky bars shooting the **** with Joe Falls or Charlie Vincent. So guys like Evan and Chris need content. The problem with that is I don't think it adjusts by time of year, just year in general. So if the run environment took off toward the end of the year (as pitching became more depleted), you may not get a fair comparison for people who were in AAA for part of the year. BP's numbers may be able to factor in opponent strength a bit better than the rest.

Edman85
Toledo DRC+ (100 average) from BP. DRC isn't perfect but uses batted ball data, opponent strength, weather, etc. to suss out some things. His defense and moderate power was strong enough to make him a legit starting third baseman for a few years.
Tenacious D
Yeah, I wouldn’t group Inge with those guys. To me, he’s more like Bobby Higginson—had a few good years, then flamed out.

Particularly baseball moms. He reminded him of their son as a little boy. He even had the little boy name. he was underrated too. Interesting that you don’t see him around the team or park. He’s still local. Was involved at Michigan. Don’t know if he still is. I’m sure he knows Fetter well.

Tiger337
I am pretty sure he'll opt out. If he did opt in, he'd be a bargain. Edited November 4, 2023 by Tiger337
mtutiger
Looks like Door #3 (restructure / new contract) is possibly on the menu
mtutiger
Erod being open to a restructure and coming back would make the trade deadline fiasco make more sense in retrospect... although I'll believe it when I see it.
Tiger337
If he insists on a "no trade", it would make his statement about not wanting to leave Detroit seem more legit.

Reading between the lines, if ERod has stated he intends to opt out, there isn't a real reason not to begin negotiations on a restructure before the deadline. RatkoVarda
Add 1/23, making it a 4/72 deal, 18 per, full no trade, pre-pay some of it as signing bonus, that’s fair for both sides

I can see where it could theoretically shift numbers a little bit.
