But that's easy to say in hindsight, The truth is that being right is no protection against being blackballed out of ever managing again anywhere by the 'old boy's club' It's true, Hinch could have sacrificed his baseball career on the altar of spotless integrity and quit. Tiger337
One can also question why upper management though they could bypass Hinch and go directly to the players. Would they have tried that with Leyland or Anderson?

What was he gonna do, call a cop? The front office wanted to win by any means possible and they weren’t going to let A.J. Hinch **** that up. That’s pretty much where the Frontline doc ended up on it and it makes sense. Help me out here, anyone. I’m pretty sure I recall that Hinch took a bat to a couple of video monitors in either the tunnel or in the locker room during a game at one point during the season the team was stealing signs electronically. Perhaps after the game, seriously not sure? He was upset that the cheating thing was going on, and knew about, but never stopped it, or spoke up. Does this ring a bell for anybody here? I seem to recall this information being put out after the story broke on the whole ordeal.

I doubt they would have tried that with either Leyland or Anderson. But then, the tech-oriented Astros front office would never have hired a Leyland or Anderson in the first place.

We do know he never spoke up publicly before it got exposed. He might have spoken up internally about it and gotten ignored or shut down, but we don't know either way. Tigermojo
I don't care about Hinch's past. As gehringer_2 pointed out, the offense has really struggled and that's something that needs to be addressed. They need to figure out how to get the best performance out of each individual and that's not just on Hinch but he is the boss. They need a shorter leash on guys as well. Maton had way too much playing time. If you're not performing we'll try someone else has to be the new mindset now that Miggy is gone. I hope this extension isn't rewarding mediocrity because the offense has stunk. Hinch shouldn't put up with it anymore and players should get less playing time if they don't perform. RatkoVarda
Boo. Maybe sign a real MLB hitter instead? there is always that point in the season where you want to use that spot on a different player, but you cannot send down the Rule 5 guy. That hurts the club and in 2024 it should matter
Dan Gilmore
As long as they are willing to return the player to the original club, assuming he’s not providing value, I am okay with taking a shot at one. Agree that having a strong enough roster to not go looking at a Rule 5 is the goal.

When participation in the Rule 5 draft is the highlight of the winter meetings for a team, it’s pretty disappointing. But it is what I expected. If Detroit wins this division, they’ll come in the back door. is it spring training yet?
