They actually upgraded to Holton  by letting Chafin go.  AZ had to waive Holton  to sign him.

Can't be emphasized enough.... there is no Tyler Holton breakout if Chafin is on last year's team.

Doesn't mean anything one way or another as to whether they should or shouldn't have brought him back if the opportunity presented itself, but it's an example of there being opportunity costs to free agency as well.

As for signing Chafin in present day, it makes sense for both sides.... Chafin wasn't his usual self last year, but he was comfortable and performed well as a Tiger... and the team fashions itself as a place for players to get right, particularly on the pitching side. Everybody wins here.

The dreaded "R Word"

But honestly, shouldn't you ALWAYS be in rebuild mode, to a degree?

The Dodgers have been great for nearly a full decade, but they are in perpetual rebuild mode.  Think of the quality of players they have lost recently, but they keep restocking.    That's how you do it.   It helps that they have big money to throw at big names, but a lot of their success has come from their own system.

and right on cue, the LAD make a prospect trade with the Yankees, getting a well regarded minor league SS/3B for a well regarded minor league 2B and a generic LHR, and clearing 2 40 man rosters spots. they really do get talent into their system in any way you can think of.

Wait until you see the waiver claim Harris makes this week.  It will blow your mind.

The Canadian version...  From the sitcom Corner Gas...Karen or Lacey.  I was always a Karen (Tara Spencer Nairn) over Lacey (Gabrielle MIller).  I was always amused by the Bailey vs Jennifer argument...like Jan Smithers (Bailey) was some simple plain girl...she was a fricking model from California

Guilty. I think the Mary Ann over Ginger thing is even more ridiculous than Bailey over Jennifer.

I remember when I was a kid, Ginger was a scary grownup lady and Mary Ann was like a pretty girl in class. I took a close look at Ginger when I became a grownup and … awww, yeah.
