I've felt pretty good about Meadows so far, just because I haven't thought he reached a point where he looked over matched at the plate. Of course, hitters can and do go from looking good to looking bad for no obvious reason all the time...... Quote

We hated Al because he fell in love with subpar players (like Willi, etc...) and wouldn't move off of them. And was too lazy to sift through the waiver wire or whatever it took to come up with some other solution/ player. If Jung is up by July-ish, doesn't it make your point moot (if he sticks)? Again... I'm not going to worry about any short-term pain... as long as we get long-term solutions. Quote

I think it was obvious from pretty much day one that Willi wasn't a MLB middle IF. If they had sent him straight to LF they might have gotten more of the production out him the Twins did last year. My perception is we have a young group with no claim on position. We are sticking them where they cause the least harm. That’s kind of troublesome. I think the defense could be troublesome. Quote

He’s clearly the best defensive CF option on what isn’t a strong defensive team. But the problem is they also need offense where they can scrape it from. It’s not exactly a deep lineup. I know there’s lots of hope for the rookie IFs to make solid debuts and for the younger players to stay healthy keep trending upwards and for Canha to be solid despite aging and for Baez to do something at the plate and for 3B to not be an offensive hole…. There’s a lot of ifs and they ain’t all going to go the right way. But just how many will work out favorably? Quote

For instance I’ve read Keith’s arm is insufficient for third base. Not sure if true. Jung looks like a catcher to me so third seems possible plus his arm is written about as great per his coaches. Stuff like that. But best analysis is on this board for sure. So thanks to everyone. Jung's arm is average, at best. Keith had a plus arm, but has needed to wind up and has had trouble with different arm angles, however, a lot of these defensive reports on him are post injury and after bulking up. Some training, conditioning and healing may offset a lot of concerns. Quote

When Keith talks about fielding he sounds like he's in the second group. When Jung talks about it it sounds like he's in the 1st. Quote
Tenacious D Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Seems to me they want Keith at 2B, Jung at 3B. 1 Quote

It would mean something like: -Keith to 1b and Tork traded, -Meadows doesn't make the team making it possible for another LHH (Keith) to move to the OF in his place. (Seems unlikely Hinch would like an all LLH OF on any regular basis.) -Keith is a washout and the Tigers just burned ~$30M So, Keith at 3B is out in your scenario? Quote

Harris did leave the door slightly ajar for the future - I took that to mean that if down the road (as in maybe next year) Keith's shoulder health proves out the fact that he can play 3B comes back into the mix. But my take would be that if can manage 2b at all reasonably, they want to protect his arm for at least this season. Quote

theroundsquare Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 I wonder about that Keith to 1B scenario. He just seems too big to be a secondbaseman. What can we get for Tork? I heard Joey Bart is available 😉 Quote

These aren't Matt Bush/Verlander comparisons. Nott every 1/1 is ARod or Chipper. Lots of Brien Taylor, Phil Nevin, and Paul Wilsons. Your most likely reasonable best hope is a Darin Erstad or Pat Burrell. Franchise players identified at that point are few. 2 Quote

Sports_Freak Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 2 more weeks? The Lions really made the baseball off-season fly by. So, which major free agents have the Tigers signed with Miggys contract off the books? I haven't really heard of any moves. Quote
