But there has been a move the past 3 years to move more women into the booth for PBP or color. Have seen it on a very limited basis in college football (decent Beth Mowins), on NHL national TV broadcasts (Leah Hextall disaster) and overseas with stuff like the Rugby World Cup and English premier league soccer. There was a woman who did a couple of games with Dickerson during the summer who I thought was very good. I can't remember her name, but I think she was a writer for the Astros or Rangers. Walden would be a cheer leader like Monroe and would not add any useful analysis.

Allyson Footer for the Astros I think. Melanie Newman is a backup announcer for the Orioles, and a full-time job would be an promotion for her. I know absolutely nothing about Siera Santos, but she did several games for MLBN this year, which tends to be a feeder to these types of jobs. Beth Mowins was mentioned, but she has done some baseball as a backup for the Cubs, I believe. Edited October 13, 2023 by Edman85

oblong
Reading the social media comments would be fun, depressing, and predictable at the same time. I love when people get triggered.
Tiger337
The social media response might be fun initially, but not so much over time. I could see two different scenarios: (1) They hire a woman who is bad at her job. Woke Twitter protects her because she is woman and calls everybody misogynist if they criticize her. (2) They hire a woman who is good at her job but men never accept her and constantly make sexist remarks.

Out of respect for my professional relationship with them, I agreed to abide by their wishes. Nothing says objective journalism like covering stuff up The ship sailed on beat journalism being objective a long time ago. McCosky is almost the platonic ideal of a beat reporter, from the team’s and players’ points of view. He is very much on the team, and very much with The Guys. Only if a player veers into the practically criminal, such as domestic abuse, will we hear explicitly negative reporting surrounding the team or players. Otherwise, if we want to try to get a sense of what might really be going behind the veneer bring presented that the clubhouse is one big Get Along Gang, we have to try to read between the lines, especially the quotes. Beyond that, though, media consumers no longer have any expectation that beat journalism will even trade in investigation, revelation, and conflict, and today’s sports fan is generally sophisticated enough to understand that if a beat reporter steps across some line with a team or a player, that reporter will be gone. Remember Anthony Fenech? He tried to dip his toe into the water of revealing innocuous conversations the player wasn’t happy with, and all it cost him was access and then his beat.
