casimir
Are the regular season votes in yet? Did Bochy steal some manager of the year votes from Hyde?

This is very interesting, thinking how 'strong' this division was compared to the others. That is why you play the games instead of simply handing out awards at season end - as Oblong mentioned here earlier. This is also why 'sustainability' to keep a strong team matters. I know many do not like hearing that term/approach - but that is key in giving any good team a chance on a continual basis as it really does seem like a sound approach. Baltimore's current roster has one non arbitration contract for next season. James McCann is signed through 2024 at just over $12M. Everybody else is a free agent (Aaron Hicks, Kyle Gibson, Adam Frazier, Jack Flaherty) or in arbitration or pre arbitration. They could use some pitching help, and that's what is available in free agency this offseason.
RandyMarsh
On top of all the aforementioned young players on the roster Baltimore also has the top system in baseball with several top 50 prospects including the consensus number 1 so they should be a force for years to come. Given the nature of the playoffs don't know if that will lead to any World Series wins or appearances but they should have plenty of cracks at it in the next several years and beyond. RatkoVarda
tale of 2 teams. Os traded 3 top 25 guys from a loaded system for garbage pitcher they hope would turn around. Flaherty was bad for STL and the Os had him in the BP in September. With their system, they could have made a huge swing for literally any pitcher. The Rangers told their players, coaches and fans, they were going for it and got Max. Maybe he comes back from IL by WS, but he made sure they got a WC spot. Edit: I'll add the Rangers made the first deadline trade, getting Chapman early. That worked out OK for regular season, not so much in playoffs. They called up Carter early, which "unnecessarily" started his clock. And of course they actually spend real money on free agents. That's how it's done. That's how it's done. The Rangers have balls and spent money and made trades at the right time but it's hard to find fault with the Orioles turn around the last couple of years. The Orioles had a great season and should have a good future and more opportunities to win championships. I think it's OK that they didn't trade their prospects this year. SoCalTiger
The Rangers were opportunistic in their free agent approach. They saw Seager and Simean available and got them early when most teams hold back waiting for the “perfect” time. The perfect time is when opportunity knocks. This year it’s a 25 year old stud pitcher in Japan. Don’t blink. Just recruit and pay. Yamamoto makes us a contender. Balls to the wall Tigers. Tenacious D
Didn’t we pass on Semien because we wouldn’t go an extra year? Wish we could have that decision back.

casimir
I don’t think anyone expected any team to sign 2 of the 6 available and more sought after SSs that offseason (counting Semien as a SS). Not only did the Rangers land 2, but without looking to confirm, I’d suspect they’ve provided the best returns so far.

Who knows what they get next year? If they win the WS what they got this year should assuage some of the pain if the future years look more like last year. If not, not so much!
