Says NOTHING about Cossa's NHL time next year. I think Cossa and his NHL-readiness (or not quite there as of...) say everything about how much NHL time he gets. IE: Blow the doors off in training camp and trade one of those other two. Start in Grand Rapids (if he's not quite ready) and blow the doors off down there showing that he's ready for the NHL... move one of the other two. Not ready until the trade deadline but showing it right before then...? Trade one before the deadline. Mrazek is "Cossa-readiness Insurance"... nothing more. IMO. And what if Yzerman, as Kenny frequently did, decides he wants to bring Lyon back next season? Then Cossa has zero shot at playing. Quote
1984Echoes Posted Sunday at 06:08 PM Posted Sunday at 06:08 PM I'm not ready for "what ifs" at this point. I want to see it in black and white and then I'll make my comments and judgements. I like to speculate as much as everyone else on here... but on this one... no. Quote
AlaskanTigersFan Posted Monday at 03:25 PM Posted Monday at 03:25 PM We're rebuilding.... Our farm system is ranked in the top 5. Isn't that a good thing? https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-farm-system-rankings/ Given I think the Walman deal was terrible, I think overall Stevie's been doing a pretty good job. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted Monday at 05:39 PM Posted Monday at 05:39 PM Interesting Joey V quote post trade: “I thought I’d have a good opportunity there, but things weren’t working out. I couldn’t really tell you why. But everything involved with the coaching change (Todd McLellan replacing Derek Lalonde right after Christmas) and all that stuff — just couldn’t find a real groove to the year, didn’t feel too good about my game, getting out of the lineup a little bit and having to deal with that. Just a lot going on. I thought another opportunity somewhere else (could be good) and see what that brings.” Sounds like he could have asked to be traded, but I'm also a bit surprised at his quote. McLellan put him on the top line for a few games when he took over and Joe did what he does.....skate around and not do much else. With the Blackhawks running basically no systems with a **** roster I guess he could potentially "blossom" there but it certainly won't be into a winning hockey player. Quote

Shinzaki Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Signing Tarasenko and Gustafsson worked out horribly. Kane has provided some juice on the PP and the 2nd line, but he doesn't work at all on defense. Not a good summer at all Quote
lordstanley Posted Monday at 10:24 PM Author Posted Monday at 10:24 PM (edited) Summer of 2023 was nothing to write home about either, although I did and still do like the DeBrincat trade. Signed Daniel Sprong, Klim Kostin, Alex Lyon, J.T. Compher, Christian Fischer, Justin Holl, Shayne Gostisbehere and James Reimer. Sprong, Kostin, Fischer and Reimer didn't work out, but didn't really cause any harm other than the opportunity cost of not finding others instead. Holl made no sense from day one. Compher has disappointed. Gostisbehere matched or exceeded expectations for 1 year @ $4.125mm, but then was lost after one season due to cap management priorities - 35 pts in 56 games this season is a bargain for Carolina at $3.2mm per season. Lyon was a solid signing, good value at $900k/yr. Edited Monday at 10:25 PM by lordstanley Quote

I can’t wait for a #58 overall pick of Yzerman to approach 500 NHL career games and record four 20+ goal seasons including 30 goals once. Doubt it will be 2019 or 2020’s 2nd round forwards Mastrosimone, Niederbach, or Hanas. Quote

buddha Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago 2015: evgeniy schvechnikov, no second round pick 2016: dennis cholowski, givani smith, filip hronek 2017: michael rasmussen, gustav lindstrom 2018: filip zadina, joe veleno, jonatan berggren, and jared mcisaac. those drafts should be the foundation of this team. and all you got out of it was hronek (who was dealt in a good trade), and a third and fourth line wingers. that's pathetic. i wouldnt trade raymond or seider for all of those guys. lordstanley Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago Jacob Trouba scored a goal last night! It was his first of the year. 1 G 12A in 63 games this season for two teams. I know points scored isn’t the be all and end all for defensemen, but still. Quote
