lordstanley
Game recap for those who missed it: "Wings tied the game with under 5 minutes to go in regulation then converted twice in the shootout for a stirring comeback victory over the Metropolitan division's 2nd place team". Sounds good, right?
lordstanley
Look at the 5th and 6th Philly goals at 5:55 mark and 6:35 mark. NHL goalies need to stop both of those. Edited December 23, 2023 by lordstanley

Shinzaki
Beyond our top three...D is suspect. Noah Hanifan is on the block...might look nice on the back end. Don't think there's an upgrade available in goal

Shinzaki
They just called up Edvinsson...A guy like Hanifan would give us an improved shot at the playdowns...and he's still pretty young. An upgrade in goal is even more of an immediate need...that issue could keep us out of the playdowns

They just moved Lyon to IR but retroactive to the 16th. Even though he could still be back almost at any time they probably don't clear the roster sport for less then a couple games. I could see Chiarot and Maatta losing their roster spots but... 1) What does it cost to get Hanifan? 2) and... how do you get Chiarot off the roster? 3) If not Chiarot, then Holl? Then: who plays off-hand with only 2 right shot D'men if Holl goes out the door...?
1984Echoes
PS: I don't think the team goes after Hanifan, IMO. If they go after someone, it's a bigger 2-way power forward so... I'm looking more at Elias Lindholm than Hanifan. In fact... that's the guy I want. I think a forward like Lindholm improves our defense (over what we've got: Veleno or Berggren probably lose their spot) more than Hanifan improves our D (over what we've got... I mean, Hanifan is definitely an improvement over Maata/ Chiarot/ Holl, whoever loses out, but I think the difference is smaller here than in the forward group). I was as vocal as anyone about Holland doing a poor job of finding RH shots to balance the team, but yeah - there is a limit to how much poor play rope a RH stick can buy you. For me Holl has had some games past that limit.

lordstanley
Kane is hot. Gives the Wings the 1st period 1-0 lead in Jersey.
lordstanley
Lousy sequence where Raymond hobbled off and then the Devils tied it seconds later. 1-1 after 1. Michael Hutchison in net for the Wings.
lordstanley
The Wings are incapable of playing with a lead. A 2-1 edge for the Wings after 2 is flipped to a 3-2 deficit with 7 minutes to go.

slothfacekilla
1-1 late in the first against the wild. Wild struck first after Seider and Perron took each other out at center ice. Kane tied it up shortly after with a nifty shot.
gehringer_2
2-1 at the end of 2. Should be at least 3-1. Reimer has had to stop multiple wide open breakaways. And through two coaching regimes and a ton of players that have come and gone, and it remains true that the Wings are consistently terrible in the last minute of play of a period. lordstanley
Shame that this great output by Kane since his arrival has been going to waste.
lordstanley
Short-lived tie for the Wings. Behind again.
lordstanley
Last few minutes have been a gong show. Wings players literally falling over each other. 5-2 Wild
lordstanley
In their 13 December games including tonight, the Wings have given 4 or more goals 9 times. 5 or more goals 6 times. 6 or more goals 4 times. lordstanley
6-3 loss. 2-8-1 in past 11. Season has circling down the drain. Who expected this amidst the excitement the day Kane was signed?,
1984Echoes
So... Unless they start playing better... They're obviously still not ready yet for prime time (making the playoffs)...
