The answer isn't the league stepping in through Rule 17. The answer was the league stepping in in the two minutes of chaos. Brad Allen has a replay official in his ear. All the time they come across and correct things, even without a full fledged video review. Every time they go "after consultation on the field", it's usually actually the replay guy coming in with an assist.... Nothing stopped the replay official from saying "hey let's slow this down and make sure we are right here. Looking at the replay, 70 doesn't approach you. 68 does. Are you sure 70 reported as eligible? Because that's not really supported by video"

But that happening in JerryWorld? Fat chance.

DC and his boys need to use this as motivation as they go on a **** YOU tour in these playoffs.

I do think there is something to this. Campbell has always played better as the underdog, as the team that's counted out, as the.... villain? I think this will absolutely be motivation moving forward, and they will be a much harder team to oust in the playoffs.

Two things I have only seen once in an NFL game, refs announcing a pass interference penalty and then picking up the flag and waving it off with no explanation and announcing the wrong guy as eligible. Both late in the 4th quarter against the Cowboys in Dallas.

While I disagreed with going for two from the 7 and the 3 1/2, because I thought it was emotional and not logical, one take I read kind of turned me in favor of it a little more, even if it's not one Campbell would ever cite to.

With the division and playoffs secured, it's possible the juice wasn't worth the squeeze from an OT period. If you enter OT, you might have a slightly better chance at winning (relative to converting a 2pt conversion from the 7 or the 3 1/2), but you also have a much higher chance of sustaining a season-killing injury. Leave it all on the line, go win it with your offense. Twice. Because the refs didn't hear you the first time.

I also approve of going for the 2 three times in a row from the simple philosophical POV of:

Always go for the throat. Go for the win. Relentless. Attack.

I think that's the mentality of DC and that's the mentality of the team. Which I approve. But also...

We win on that 3rd play if Goff gets a little more air on the throw to Mitchell. Mitchell has the two points, if Goff doesn't underthrow...

The NFL will hope that everyone just forgets this by Tuesday because of the full slate of games today.

They are right. Unless it affects the Chiefs or Cowboys, it doesn't really matter.

There is still a play clock.

OK - Then I blame Dan Cambell. The stadium announcer clearly announced that number 70 was eligible. Wasn't Cambell or anyone on the Lion's coaching staff listening. If the Lions feel that Decker reported but the ref/PA announcer announced the wrong player - the answer is tough sh*t? That's crap.

Um, no, they weren't.   They are very focused on what the next play is, they're probably talking to players/coaches the whole time and it's not always easy to hear what is being said on the PA anyway (plus the crowd noise).

Players/coaches drown that **** out

So WTF was Campbell suppose to do? He can't run out on to the field. If the Lions jump up and down that it is 68 who is eligible, it ruins the play. Also, the Lions want to snap it quickly after a lineman is announced as eligible so the defense doesn't have time to react.

There is no next play.

They either make the extra point or they don't.

There is literally nothing else to pay attention to.

Whether the extra point is made or missed the next play is the Lions are kicking off.

That's not the answer either though. If Allen makes a mistake, it's not on the Lions to take a delay of game penalty to correct him, also in the process ruining their play by announcing to the Cowboys who the ball is going to. It's not like they would correct it if the ball wasn't going to Decker.

Plus you show the team that you believe in them and that you have brass balls and believe me, that is going to resonate with those players.    I guarantee you there is not a single player in that locker room grousing about what Campbell did.   He showed a lot of love and respect to his players by asking them to go get it and the loss stings but that, in the long run, only fuels this team's fire.

The next play being the 2 point conversion (since they hadn't run it yet).   It's like slamming Brady Hoke for not noticing his QB  stumbling after a hard hit.   Brady wasn't looking at the huddle, Brady was focusing on the next thing.

It's the complete lack of accountability that gets to me. I wonder if Allen saw the replay before making his comments. Because there is no way someone can see that exchange after the fact and say "yeah #70 reported as eligible".

Admit you ****ed it up.
