This time will be a quick 24 hour trip for me but I've been to the Bay Area several times before and totally agree with you about the sights. One of the most memorable sporting days I've ever had as a participant rather than as a spectator was 10 years ago running the Miwok 100k ultramarathon. Took me a bit over 13 hours in the middle of the pack. Stinson Beach start at 5am, Muir Beach, sunrise view looking down at the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands, a big cat plonking itself in front of the table at the final aid station causing us to wisely bypass it (locals knew whether it was a cougar or bobcat or mountain lion but I forget which), etc. Glorious.

Very cool.

Almost forgot to add...  any golfers coming out here for the game, go play Pebble Beach. I know it's $$...  but c'mon. It's Pebble Beach

Speaking of football towns...   seems to me the 49ers should change their name to San Jose 49ers at this point. Calling them “San Francisco” no longer makes any sense. A few NFL teams do play a bit outside their home cities (i.e., Cowboys, Dolphins), but they're really not all that far. The 49ers pretty much play out of a different major city now. It’d be like moving the Lions to Toledo, but still calling them “Detroit Lions”

I expect it will literally take me less time from Vancouver liftoff to SFO touch down (2h 20min) than it will take from SFO tarmac to Levi's. Remarkable how far out it is. I have a rental car reservation and will probably fulfill it and drive to  Mountain View station and take the VTA from there, only going by what I've read online.

Levi's is much closer to SJC. Of the three Bay Area airports, I would also say SJC is my favorite (followed by SFO, followed in a distant 3rd by OAK).

I wouldn't be opposed to calling them the Santa Clara 49ers.

Watch this if you dare (viewable if you click the "Watch on YouTube" line). How cathartic would it be if the Lions win tomorrow on a Badgley walkoff.

I just hope if we get into such a situation it's tied.... if we are down one relying on a Badgley kick, my heart may not make it until Monday.

Depending on the airline, sometimes you can find cheaper flights into SFO than SJC, but you're absolutely right. San Jose airport is right there, like 5 miles from the stadium

When I would fly into that area, I would always shop around. Oakland was often cheapest (until you factored in the hour plus drive to get to the South Bay)

Yeah thanks for the horrid memory. Monte Clark's insanely stupid game plan still irks me to this day. Their strength was the run game, yet he had Danielson mostly throwing throughout the first half - using Billy Sims sparingly. The Lions finally came to their senses late in the game and started feeding Billy - who of course single-handedly brought them back into the game. Had Clark rode Sims from the start I think the Lions win that game

Just for 💩 and grins, say yes when the rental car person asks if you will be taking the car into the city.    The instructions they give really are something.

And if they ask where I'm staying in the city, I'll tell them I've heard free camping is available.

Danielson was throwing, that's for sure ...often to the Niners! 5 INTs that day. I wonder if that's a playoff record.

My son and I have seen lots of Lions fans throughout downtown SF today.  Will be interesting to see how many of us there are tomorrow at the game.

I'm not flying in until tomorrow morning, but I wonder if there's quite a few Lions fans staying at one of the major Great America hotels tonight.

I'll be in Row 9 of Section 230, wearing this blue hoodie

I haven't been this giddy since I was a kid on Christmas Eve. And I'll still have to wait another 10 hours when I wake up.

Me too! Just imagine how it's going to be if we win, gonna have to wait 2 whole weeks. Gonna be the longest 2 weeks ever!

If anyone is without plans tomorrow and wants to be around 30,000 of their closest friends, I may end up with two extra tickets to the Ford Field watch party... One of my friends is 50/50... I bought eight at $10 each and they're reselling for like $70 each, which.... I'll probably do that before I let them go unused, but I'd rather find a Lions fan to give them to.

There's a better than even chance that I miss the 1st quarter of this game, as I got called into work for a few hours tomorrow to set up an event. Gonna get there way earlier than I need to in hopes that I can get an early start. I'm kind of at the mercy of others doing their thing before me, though.

DVR it and start at the beginning and FF through the downtime and commercials and you'll probably be all caught up live by midway through the 2nd.
