2024 NFC Championship Game: Detroit Lions (14-5) @ San Francisco 49ers (13-5)

In hindsight its easy to say he should have kicked the FGs but at the end of the day 1 TD is worth more then 2 FGs and the plays were there and not made by the players on the field.  I believe that we have 2 glaring weaknesses that make me good with those decisions.  Our kicker is below average for an NFL kicker and our defense is prone to given up lots of chunk plays and points. 

To finish this year in this spot is a positive and I believe we are here one year faster than Campbell and Holmes were planning on which is why the above weaknesses are still there.  This offseason I believe we correct these issues as we have a good drafting GM, cap space to use and a young team with energy that free agents are going to want to be part of.

It was a fun season and should be a fun offseason as well. However ,this loss stings for now.

It seemed more a mix up on the handoff. I wonder if in that situation it would have just been better for Goff to eat it and take a sack?

We won a few games because of Dan Gamble and we lost one too, a big one.   Probably don't get here without that aspect of it and I don't think fans in this town are going to get too upset over that.    

I'm 60 later this year,  I have seen every other team win a title here and I saw everyone of them go through gut wrenching losses (except the 1984 Tigers)..............You can tell when something is a fluke and when something is real.  This team is real.   They've been led by rookies and sophomores.............imagine how good those guys are going to be. 

And I trust Brad Holmes.  The man is so good at the draft. 

Cry in your beer tonight, but get ready.......no more loveable losers around here anymore. 

Niners just went through this feeling two years in a row and it didn't stop them from winning tonight.

I remember the Chargers game where Campbell went for it on 4th down instead of kicking the go ahead FG and was universally praised.

Gibbs isn't good in traffic yet.  He's Donovan Edwards.  Oh, look i keep referring to my national championship win from earlier this Month.  Dudes...this team is gonna be fine if the culture is right.  The "Jared Goff" chants, the huge surge in support at Ford Field tonight.  That's all great stuff.  The right people are finally in charge.

Well said. The enjoyment of the season wasn't erased by a stinging loss, we should be happy for the success we had.

Sutton's collapse down the stretch was certainly disappointing but I do wonder if the injury he reportedly had(can't remember what it was at the moment) effected him at all. It seemed to coincide with when it was reported that he may miss some time.

Just because you go for it doesn't mean the 49ers are required to go right back down the field. The Lions gave up 27 points in that half.

Either way, what Campbell has done is completely change the culture with this franchise. Holmes too. Winning Lion teams of the past still seemed more to me like a collection of tangentially-related players. Not this group. It's a real team, and it's because of Dan. Even the 90s Lions weren't this together. Despite some decent seasons back then, there were still players who viewed their coach as a clueless bonehead. Erik Kramer has ripped Wayne pretty hard in recent interviews. Jimmy Williams thought he was a moron - he used to scoff at the way Fontes rode around the practice field in a golf cart like a clown, smoking his cigar. Even Mitchell mocked him. And the front office back then was broken.

Not this group. They are together from top to bottom. Ownership, GM, players, and especially the coach

Yeah, the announcers said Gibbs went the wrong way. He never had complete control of the ball. Killer mistake at the worst possible time. 

Does anyone know how many times Gibbs fumbled this season?

You can tell Goff was expecting him to go the other way. At that point the play is broken so maybe it's best for Goff to just tuck it down and run with it. 

Gibbs fumbled at least once against Minnesota.

as good as the offense is, the D was just a little to bad for them to overcome tonight. They could have easily lost the LA game, and tonight the plays in the second half didn't go their way. Thats football, thats sports. if you can't deal with it, go fishing or do something productive with your life lol

Won't watch the Super Bowl.  I hope the Niners win it.   I won't be able to stomach the whole Kelce/Taylor garbage.   I thought cutting to shots of Kurt Warner's wife was annoying.   This game it's gonna be brutal.

Yeah I agree, you never know if you will get another chance like this to get to the Super Bowl but I do feel confident that this isn't just one of those one and done fluke years. The Lions should be in the thick of things in the coming years barring something unforeseen like Goff reverting to a pumpkin or the o line completely regressing.

pretty amazing season considering the massive deficits in the pass rush and the secondary.

4 of the top 93 draft picks; lots of cap room; hopefully this is the start not the end

Slot corner...seek a outside CB in FA or trade..draft a kid in rd 1 or 2 and hope they develop

Yep I'm definitely not watching this one, it would've been hard regardless with the Lions losing but just the thought of the Kelce/Taylor crap along with hearing the Mahomes slobberfest by Tony Romo on commentary will just be too much for me to stomach.
