I thought the mini-movie was good. They only showed the highs though. Completely skipped the Cowboys game and ended in the locker room of the Bucs game. Which.... fine, okay.... but not including them in a season mini-movie doesn't mean they didn't happen.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed that they glossed over the lows. It think it's important to acknowledge that there are ups and downs even in great season. There was a very slight nod to the 49ers loss at the end when they talked about not being perfect at the end (25:45), but I would have preferred to see more of the lows touched on.

What does everyone think of this guy?

I wouldn't draft Kyle McCord if I were the Lions. He's a worse version of my boy Connor Cook lol. FYI, I know the article is about Robinson, but McCord was the one prominently featured in the picture.

Based on the story it sounds like he's a fit for the Lions... has the love of football, has the mentality the Lions want. And as a side note, he fits in a position that the Lions need. It's exceedingly apparent that this really is a side note for Holmes so I'm not be sarcastic about that.

With the exception of one outlier, Mock Draft Database shows most mock having him going mid-20s to end of first round.

Holmes drafting gives me confidence we'll be back to contending for the postseason.

No chance IMO. Can't see Holmes giving max money to an aging player at any position. Jones is amazing no doubt but he's going to be 30 when the season starts, don't see Holmes being in the market for him. That would be a true "all in" move.

also note what Campbell said in his presser "in this league, everybody gets hurt." I think we will consistently find that when given the option, Holmes/Campbell will opt to have two good players instead of one great one because your depth is going to play as much as your starter. And esp if they can get the two for less than the price of one and have more to spend on another spot.

I don't mind spending big on a guy like Jones if it's something we could get out of in a couple years. With how high the cap is, the space we have and just how you can change contracts to free up money a big money contract shouldn't prevent us from keeping whomever we want so long as the guarantee isn't too long. I mean chances are they are going to spend most of their space anyway so instead of dividing it up between a 3-4 marginal players why not sign 1 true impact one?

Also I wouldn't consider that move an "all in" type move if it doesn't effect your future like I believe a short guarantee wouldn't. I think an all in one is something where you sacrifice player(s) or picks from the future for a short term gain and like I said I don't think you would be doing that by signing somebody like Jones unless it's a major long term guarantee which I don't think would be the case.

I'm cool with the philosophy as a guiding principle, but I think when you get this close to the top of the mountain, adding an impact player at a position of particular need can put you over the top. Yes, it carries more risk than draft, develop and extend, but Super Bowl windows generally don't stay open for long.

I think if you gave Brad Holmes the choice of spending money to add two good players, on team favorable deals versus one elite player, on a max contract, he's going to add good players. I think anyone expecting or hoping for an A-tier Chris Jones, L'Jarius Sneed, Brian Burns, Jaylon Johnson type player is just setting themselves up to be disappointed. I've come to the conclusion myself that it doesn't matter how close we are to a Super Bowl, Holmes is not deviating from the philosophy that brought him this far. We'll add a couple of nice players from the B-tier of free agency as we did last year and call it a day.

That's kinda how the Pistons won in 2004, wasn't it?

It's possible but also let's not forget he hasn't been in the position before and its not like the rams were afraid to add big name guys. So who know where he stands. In the past it didn't make sense. Now, it might make more sense because Super Bowl windows don't last long

Any good GM should make a move that makes sense even if it departs from his usual philosophy, my point initially wasn't so much that Holmes would never do something as that from what both he and Campbell have said since they have been here, they value depth seriously. That seems so obvious for the NFL and yet previous Lion FOs absolutely did not build depth and it seems one of the most SOL things of all was Lions seasons crashed by injuries.

I think the philosophy is to not commit long term to FA's, unless they are our own. I heard DC mention knowing his coaches and players and the importance of that knowledge as an assurance of the future...see JRM, last years signing of Anzalone...I expect same for St. Brown, Hutch, Sewell, Goff and Decker.  Outside guys will be short term deals, which I think usually means 'B' level. If they could get Jones short term, I think they take a run at it, I just think he's got eyes for his life payday. With all of that...CGJ took a 1y so what the crap do I know.

Just find us a Maxx Crosby. And a shutdown corner. 😁

If by Maxx Crosby you mean a multi-tooled defensive lineman, acquired in the draft, that can play multiple positions along the defensive front and isn't solely a pass rush specialist, sure. If by shutdown corner you mean signing 33 year old Stephon Gilmore to a one year deal or signing one of Chidobe Awuzie, Kenny Moore or Adoree Jackson to a team-friendly, cap-friendly 2-3 year deal, sure.

If by Maxx Crosby you actually mean Maxx Crosby or signing the likes of Brian Burns, Danielle Hunter, or Josh Allen, I don't think that's happening. If by shutdown corner you mean acquiring one of the premium players on the market like L'Jarius Sneed, Jaylon Johnson, or Kendall Fuller, that doesn't seem to be their plan either. They'd rather bring in two B-/B/B+ good free agents that they can get on a team-friendly, short term deal, than one A+ great free agent that they have to pay big money to on a long term contract.

I hope to eat a whole bucket of my words when they sign one of the top free agents on the market, but I just don't think that's what Holmes' plan is.
