It's funny seeing the meltdown on this other board that I frequent. "Holmes is doing nothing" "Holmes doesn't care to address any needs" etc.

First of all, besides the fact that it's asinine to criticize Holmes like 5 hours into the offseason, do these people know Brad Holmes? He's not going to overpay in the first wave of free agency. Holmes can be unpredictable in the draft but he's predictable in free agency in now his 4th go at it. He's not going to overspend for the A level free agents so I guess people will continue to get mad hoping for the splashy moves.

The Den, I take it, spend way WAY too much time there, lol.

Just a loud couple of posters there, the usual suspects

Yep. I actually love that place but there are some real pessimistic posters that are very loud with their disapprovals.

There really isn't a CB1 available. The CB1 was going to be acquired via the draft.

It usually takes a CB a year or two to get up to NFL speed. Rookie cornerbacks never get the benefit of the doubt from officials either. Plus, picking so late? I don't see Holmes reaching for a CB. He'll take the best player available that's on their board.

There's not a whole lot of guys in the league that can consistently cover WR1s, those guys are going to get their yards one way or another. I'm more concerned with not letting the other guys get theirs too.

It's why you have to get consistent pressure on the QB. Make them...uncomfortable. 😅

I’m very meh on this trade.  I’ll trust Brad but it sounds like we’ve acquired another #2 corner at the cost of a 3rd round pick.

There is almost zero chance getting a player as good as Davis at 93.

Fans way overall picks after 50

Amon-Ra was pick #112.

And?

I didn't say it was impossible I said basically zero. But you're right tyrion davis-price future hall of fame. Malik Willis will be the face of the league for years to come.

Glasgow and Jonah Jackson were 3rd round picks as well. Also 7 of the 22 All Rookies this year were 3rd round or later. With that said statistically the odds are you aren't going to get somebody as good as Davis with that pick but I don't think the odds are as low as KL2 is saying. I do agree with him though that fans(myself included) tend to overrate picks like that cause the odds are that you are more likely to a replacement level player at best than a plus starter.

Holmes 3rd round draft picks are McNeill, Melifonwu, Joseph, Martin, and Hooker. The jury is still out on Martin and Hooker, but McNeill, Melifonwu, and Joseph were starters on a NFCCG team. Holmes has shown he can get useful players in the 3rd round. It's not nothing.

Exactly the kind of guy we have come to expect Brad Holmes to acquire via trade or FA.

Also exactly the scenario we have come to expect of him, buying low on a guy with an injury history.

The only source I’ve seen reporting the pick number is Sportrac which says it is pick 73. So Holmes is not buying as low as I initially heard. Yes, that 73rd pick could turn into a good player, but I think they feel they are good enough that they don’t want to wait half a season for a 3rd round rookie CB to unseat the Kindle Vildors of the world. At worst Davis is a significant upgrade in Week 1 over what they were running out at CB2 last season. At best they also find a long term answer in the draft.

I've seen everyone report it as the Lions 3rd which would be 92.

lets all take a moment to laugh at the carolina panthers.

as they sit and watch the bears take a "generational tbd" qb with their #1 pick they gave up to take a tiny qb who was terrible in year one, lets not forget they turned down mutiple #1 picks to trade for brian burns and instead just dealt him for a second and a fifth.

they make the pistons look well run.

And to add insult to injury the QB they passed on had one of the best rookie seasons from a QB in a long time.

Joseph and Melifonwu were after 93. McNeil was a 3rd but higher than 93. That's 3 starters in the 3rd.

Expand

Small sample size on Melifonwu, hopefully he can stay healthy as he showed signs in year three of being a positive player.

Kirby has definitely looked good, but room for improvement as well, last year wasn't great for him.
