I wish that I had spent more on stuff like this that I enjoyed before I got married and started a family. Now I spend very little of my discretionary income on things for myself. I also assume that for at least the next few seasons, the seats in the corner will end up paying for themselves if you sell most of the games. That’s my plan. I think I might enjoy the lower bowl seats more in some games, and between the two locations, I’m sure I can at least cover half my cost selling the pair I’m not using any given game. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 I always liked Skip, goes back to the locker room video a couple years ago where everybody was chanting "Skip Skip Skip" and you can see him start to tear up. He won me over after watching that and on the field while not being a stud he never seemed to really stick out to me in a bad way. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Lions resign DPJ for 1yr/2 million. Not sure if the expectations are that he is going to just take over the Reynolds role or if this is just a depth signing. Personally I hope it's the latter and they are still going after Reynolds or somebody else to be the starting along with Jamo and St. Brown. Quote

Depending on the terms, this could be just an “opportunity to compete” contract. Tweet I saw said “up to” $2MM. I would expect that it’s close to a vet minimum deal with bonuses up to $2MM Quote

RandyMarsh Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 I wouldve traded a 6th for Fields, he couldve provided some insurance incase Montgomery or Gibbs go down. 2 1 Quote
Motown Bombers Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 I would’ve like Fields as a Taysom Hill type. Have him come in and run RPO for a series or two. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 When you talk about a franchise ruining a career, look no further than the Justin Fields case study. He could have been an MVP candidate with a more competent franchise. Quote

I don't think he's very good. He's no Mahomes or Brady and his career is already on the downhill because his strength is his legs... But I do think that he could have succeeded at a very high level, and fooled a lot of people for a long time, in a better situation. Maybe even in Pittsburgh. It will be interesting to see. Cam Newton and Fields' new teammate Russell Wilson are two who come to mind. Cam was MVP and led the Panthers to a 15-1 season and a Super Bowl appearance. Wilson was an MVP candidate for a season or two and led the Seahawks to two Super Bowls, winning one. I think Justin Fields is on par with either of them. I don't think either are all that great. But they were used masterfully by Ron Rivera and Pete Carroll, who were able to gameplan to their strengths and surround them with the necessary talent. Watch Fields for the first half of the season last year. The Bears wouldn't let him run! In the six games before his injury, he averaged 39.5ypg on the ground. By the time he returned, with the Bears at 3-7, finally Nagy let him run and he averaged almost double that, 79ypg in his final seven games. And they went 4-3 in that stretch (including the game against Detroit that their coaching and defense totally blew in the last four minutes). Quote
Jason_R Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Next season will have at least two interesting storylines. Can Tomlin survive the circus act of juggling the chainsaws known as Russell Wilson and Justin Fields? Can the Bears avoid screwing up Caleb Williams? Quote
buddha Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 you have no idea what its been like living among the cult of justin fields. i knew bears were stupid but they took it to a whole new level with fields. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 If they never drafted Fields and still finished dead last in 2022 then they very likely would've stayed put at number 1 in 2023 and taken 1 of the QBs. If it was Stroud then things would've turned out fine(assuming he turns out the same with Chicago) but if they'd taken Young then they'd be much worse off then they are now. Having the promise of Fields allowed them to net their own Hershel Walkeresque trade so in the long run I guess you could say Fields was a net win for them. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Bears got a worse return for Fields than the Patriots got for Mac Jones. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 With the Lions defensive additions and Glenn leading a rebuilt defense, the Lions should make opposing quarterbacks sign a liability disclaimer. Coming into Ford Field may be very dangerous to their health. 🤣🤣 Lets's go! Quote

When a QB went down in week two, they could have gotten a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him. Quote

This is the Chicago front office trying to put a good face on getting roasted in this trade. Quote
NYLion Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 (edited) Really not a fan of DPJ, still have a hole at receiver. I would have preferred to bring Reynolds back who we know has synergy with Goff. DPJ is younger and fits the physical profile of the type of receiver they need so that's a plus but he was mostly invisible in his time here. I hope Holmes isn't done adding to the receiver room. I don’t think signing DPJ stops them from bringing either Reynolds back or from drafting a WR3. I think it’s likely that Reynolds is asking for WR2 money and the Lions are offering WR3 money. DPJ got WR4+ money. Quote

For sure, it's a low risk move and signals based on the contract that perhaps they see DPJ as more of a depth guy so we'll see. Holmes loves loading up on offensive weapons so I wonder if he has another trick up the sleeve before the draft, like a CJGJ signing but on offense. Plenty of solid receivers still out there. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Just now, NYLion said: For sure, it's a low risk move and signals based on the contract that perhaps they see DPJ as more of a depth guy so we'll see. DPJ was originally signed to replace Kalif Raymond when he got hurt. Now that I think about, they’re actually probably offering Reynolds WR4 money, because Kalif got WR3 (and return specialist) money last year. So DPJ is really getting “you can compete with Antoine Green and any rookie we draft” money. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Btw the Lions restructured Carlton Davis contract by turning some of it into a signing bonus. His cap hit now is a little over 9 million this year so it freed up about 5 million. Quote
