I’ve seen that said here but nowhere else. Sportrac says pick 72. I hope they are wrong.

Who are you going to trust, us or ****ing Spotrac.

An expectations for Day 2 of FA or is Brad done with the major moves?

Still some nice pieces out there including Hunter, Fuller, Gilmore, Young, and others.

I think Holmes will pounce if there is a top free agent who didn't get what they wanted and is willing to sign a one year deal. I doubt that guy is Hunter or Fuller. I think receiver is an underrated need. If they don't bring back Reynolds, I wouldn't mind going after Tyler Boyd.

My expectation going into free agency was that we would be out on all of the "big" names. I thought we'd be more aggressive on days 2, 3, and beyond. I expect us to be looking at someone like Stephon Gilmore today as another nice signing to shore up the CB position. I could also see us being in on a starting veteran Guard at the right price. So if we signed a veteran like Dalton Risner or Kevin Zietler I wouldn't be at all surprised. I also expect a depth signing or two at the DT spot. I expect Josh Reynolds to be back on a 2-3 year deal with a voidable third year option as well.

The one name mentioned there, Chase Young, is someone I'd still be willing to take a flyer on for a 1 year prove it deal if we could get it done. But he is simply not a culture fit for them and so it won't happen.

Brad Holmes in free agency is like those Colonial Penn commercials with Alex Trebex talking about the 3 P's. Remember the 3 P's of Brad Holmes free agency: price, price, and price. A price that's team friendly, a price that allows them cap flexibility, and a price they don't have to commit to beyond 2-3 years.

I wonder why the organization chose to trade draft capital away for Davis as opposed to signing a guy like Fuller? Cost? Scheme fit? Culture fit? A combo of some form of those things and maybe more?

I would say cost first in terms of contract. Also, from I have been reading on Davis, he fits better in man which is what Glenn like to run and Bowles almost exclusively ran zone. He does seem to be a better fit for the Lions than Tampa.

Last year Holmes surprised us with CJGJ late(r) in free agency. I could see someone who wants a bigger deal taking a one-year prove-it deal when they don't get what they want from the market.

Justin Simmons (S), Kendall Fuller (CB), Kenny Moore (CB), Tre'Davious White (DB), DJ Reader (DT), DJ Wonnum (EDGE), Mike Danna (EDGE), and Kevin Zeitler (OG) are names I would keep an eye on. White makes a lot of sense given the injury history and being an obvious buy-low candidate. Danna has Detroit ties and is only 26. I also wouldn't count out CJGJ eventually re-signing.

If Holmes was 'in' on Sneed but the price was too much, the real blockbuster of a move could be a trade for Tee Higgins. It would make our offense arguably the best in the league. I would do #61 and a 2025 3rd for him, but the Bengals are probably wanting a 1st. The question of course would become can you pay all three of ASB, Higgins, and Jamo; along with Goff, Sewell, and Hutch. You probably could, but of course sacrifices would need to be made elsewhere.

DJ Reader is the only one I'd get too excited about, if healthy, and that's a big if.

They have a lot of guys on the team that are going to get paid soon so i think thath they don't wan't to add many long term commitments. Davenport and Davis are both signed for just next year.

I very much think Guard is in play for the 1st round pick and that isn't a bad thing to have another offensive lineman under team control on a rookie wage scale.

There aren’t a lot of positions where the premier talent is going to be available at #29, but guard is one.

That said, I would be surprised if the Lions go into the draft without picking up a capable LG. They went into 2023 with six starting offensive linemen, which is what allowed them to transition seamlessly to Glasgow after Vaitai went down.

Pigeon holing yourself to take a guard in the draft because it’s a glaring hole just doesn’t seem like Holmes’ MO at all.

That's why signing a veteran guy Kevin Zeitler on a 1 year deal makes a lot of sense too. I would imagine the Guard they could potentially draft would be someone with the versatility to play Center as well to replace Ragnow when he's gone or if he gets hurt. You ride with that player as a Guard for year one and then slide him over to center when Ragnow does leave. So next year you have Decker/Rookie/Ragnow/Zeitler/Sewell up front with Glasgow and Sorsdal as your primary backups at the Guard position.

I agree with this. I would be surprised (and concerned) if Holmes does not sign a proven NFL talent to start at LG next season. If not, you are basically tying your hands in the draft, and you are assuming that the player you are drafting has to be capable of starting in the NFL right away. And what we've seen from Awosike or Sorsdal makes them suspect even as backups.

I don't really like the idea of CJGJ re-signing. Not at all... to be honest.

I really LOVE the idea of the Lions signing Simmons, Gilmore, Zeitler, and Danna (oh, and Josh Reynolds too).

I think the locker room leadership those guys could provide would be immense. Along with what we've already got. Oh... and they would all be the key backups (or starter at LG for Zeitler) at their position too...

I love everything about this signing.  Will help right now but love the potential.  Still has a lot of room to grow and get maybe get really good.
