RE Rakestraw, from Charlie Campbell. Source.

This is key;

"In a year or two, Rakestraw and Arnold could be the starting outside cornerbacks in a Lions defense that has other good talent on that side of the ball to help their cover corners."

Rookie corners usually struggle their first season. And the Lions history with bringing rookies along slowly are all excellent points in establishing them so they get confidence. Nobody in the organization wants to throw them to the wolves and ruin their careers. By the end of the season, they should be playing at a high level, just in time for the playoffs...😀

Well, compared to last offseason, I'll take this scandal all day every day.

This isn’t a scandal.  It’s a message to the rest of the league.   Watch your kneecaps.

That would be awkward.

Sure, but the whole thing is awkward.

Has there been any specific account of what they did that was against the CBA?

I saw that on Simms' rankings he had Burrow at number 3 and Goff 10. Here's their numbers the past 2 seasons, you can throwout the totals since Burrow played less games, pay more attention to the rate stats and you will see that there is virtually no difference in most. Some Goff is slightly better at others Burrow is yet Burrow is treated as this top tier guy and Goff even at 10 was put there with some trepidation.

Yeah but can you imagine how good Burrow would be if he didn't hold on to the ball too long, take too many hits, and miss time with injuries? He might pile up numbers like Goff!

I kid, I kid. I don't have a problem with someone ranking Burrow as a better QB than Goff. Burrow is physically more talented than Goff. But the most important part of QB play is mental and you can't see what mental work a QB is doing every play. When the game is going as Goff has planned it, he makes it look easy. Pitch and catch. But on those few plays where Goff is surprised by what he is seeing, he doesn't have the presence or athleticism to improvise.

I think a lot of QB rankings value mobility a lot, which is why we see players like Allen, Burrow, Lamar, and even Hurts consistently ranked ahead of Goff, even though the stats don't back that up. Those players might put up more points in your fantasy league, that doesn't make them better QBs.

I don't think there is a QB in this league I would take to lead the Lions into the 2024-25 season over Goff. Not even Mahomes. Goff knows this team, knows this city, and he's the guy for us. Power rankings be damned.

Lions sign their 1st round draft pick to a 4 year, $14.4 million contract. All of the Lion drafted players are now signed. Let's go!!

His value dropped into the range the Lions were hoping for after this first pitch.

Speaking of fantasy football...last season I picked Goff, St Brown, Jaymo, Montgomery, Gibbs and LaPorta. I made it to the championship game. (I lost). I don't think I'll be able to nab all these Lions this season...lol

that's quite the homer take.

mahomes is the best player in the league at the most important position in football.  goff is good.  i like him.

but to take him over mahomes is lunacy.

I'd take Mahomes and Allen over Goff for sure but outside of them there isn't anybody that I feel confident enough to say that I'd for sure take them over FOR THIS TEAM RIGHT NOW.  If I felt confident that he'd stay healthy I'd throw Lamar into that as well.

It would definitely be nice to have a guy with more mobility when things break down but given our O line at the moment those times thankfully don't happen too often so the most important thing for us is a guy who makes good decisions is precise with his throws while still having the ability to make those "big time throws" like Goff is capable of.

I don’t think it is. Not for the 2024 Lions. It’s homerism in the homerism vacuum for sure.

I am not saying Goff is the best QB in the league. I’m saying Goff is my pick over any QB to lead the 2024 Lions.

you guys are nuts.  you'd rather have goff than the best player in the league in his prime and a certified hall of famer.  you dont think mahomes can hit st brown in stride?  or laporta on schedule?

this is the kind of thing we argue about in the offseason.  lol.

Under most measures, when Goff has a clean pocket, he is better than Mahomes. Goff is usually best in the league. He's not simply good but elite. Goff can handle some pressure. When the pocket is collapsing, he can make throws out of the phone booth with pressure in his face. The pressure he can't handle is when he has to move his feet, reset, and throw, or throw on the run, or simply run for a gain. Goff, however, knows his limitations and doesn't do that often and gets rid of the ball instead of taking a sack or making a bad play.
