lordstanley Posted April 14, 2024 Author Posted April 14, 2024 Three teams are still in the running to be 1st overall in the Eastern conference, thus facing the #2 wildcard team. Which we hope will be the Wings. - NYR - 112 pts, 1 game remaining - Carolina - 109 pts, 2 games remaining - Boston - 109 pts, 2 games remaining Boston, which hosts Washington, has plenty to play for as they have just a 1 pt lead for Florida for 1st place in the Atlantic conference. It's wild how many teams could still be the opponent of Boston in the 1st round: - Toronto, if Boston finishes 2nd in the Atlantic - Tampa, if Boston finishes 1st in the Atlantic, #2 seed in the East -Any of NYI, Washington, Detroit, Philly or Pittsburgh if Boston finishes 1st in the Atlantic,#1 seed in the East Quote
lordstanley Posted April 15, 2024 Author Posted April 15, 2024 The four big games tonight, all starting at 7pm - Montreal at Red Wings. Wings will be eliminated if they lose in regulation. With a win, would be safe from being caught by Pittsburgh if the Pens lose in regulation tonight. Even with a win, no way for the Wings to be safe from being caught by Washington or Philadelphia prior to Game 82 - Boston at Washington. If the Caps lose in OT, the Wings will control their destiny by winning their final 2 games. - NYI at NJ. The Wings need to gain at least a point on the Islanders tonight or else it will be impossible for the Wings to catch NYI. To catch NYI, the Wings would need to gain 3 points on the Islanders over the final 2 games; Wings win the tiebreaker in that case. - Nashville at Pittsburgh. If the Wings win and Pittsburgh loses in regulation, the Wings will be safe from being caught by Pittsburgh. If the Wings win AND Caps lose in regulation AND Pens lose in any way tonight, the Wings will control their destiny by picking up 3 points in their final 2 games. Quote
lordstanley Posted April 17, 2024 Author Posted April 17, 2024 If the Wings had grabbed the 2nd wildcard, it would have set up the first Wings-Rangers playoff series in 74 years, since Pete Babando won Game 7 of the 1950 Stanley Cup in double overtime. Jack Edwards, who yesterday announced he will retire after this season, has a chance to call one more Leafs-Bruins playoff series, as the Panthers leapfrogged the Bruins for the division title last night and will play Tampa. 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted April 29, 2024 Author Posted April 29, 2024 All that hubbub for weeks about who will make the playoffs, only for Washington to get swept away and NYI be on life support at 3-1. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 (edited) So essentially everyone that is expected to win their opening series is going to win it looks like except Dallas. It doesn't seem like there will be any upsets happening sans maybe Dallas. That series isn't close to in the books yet an losing to the defending Stanley Cup champs is exactly a major upset. Mr.TaterSalad Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Saw this question on HFBoards so I will ask it here. Would the Wings have faired any better against the Rangers than the Capitals did? Quote
lordstanley Posted April 30, 2024 Author Posted April 30, 2024 I think the Wings would have lost in 5. Most teams don't get swept. Quote

Shinzaki Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Might have won a game or two...but not the series Quote
