Took a few whacks, but the Wings lead on a Perron goal.

the detroit diaspora is real.  you see it for every one of their teams on the road except maybe the pistons.

but the second the lions were successful they were taking over every opposing stadium.  the wings have always traveled well.

When I went to the Lions @ Niners, I chatted to Lions fans living in 12 states (Oregon, Florida, Utah, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Washington to name an few) and 3 provinces. More, because that’s just people who identified where they’re from as we talked.  On my Sunday morning Vancouver-SF flight  day of the game, more than 10 people on a plane of 130 people were wearing Lions gear.

but the top lines are killing them.

I think that’s it for me for the night, I would probably stick around if I wasn’t stuck with the TNT team. They rightfully are gushing about the Avs but it’s too much for me.

yzerman is one secure GM, that's for sure.

not selling the farm for a temporary fix was the right thing to do.  theyre too far away.  they get dominated almost every time they play a good team, especially on the road.  larkin goes away and they fall apart.

stevie's in it for the long haul, not a 4-1 exit in round one.

In 2024 7-7-1 overall against teams above them in the standings, 3-5 on the road (including the past 5 road games against teams above them in the standings).

That drops to 4-7-1 overall and 2-5 on the road if you remove the Kings (75 points) and Knights (73 points).

Yzerman played 14 years before winning a cup...11 before making the finals.  He made the playoffs his rookie year.

He understands that making the playoffs and exiting quickly is relatively meaningless against the challenge of being a real contender

again, they cant clear the zone and they give up an early goal.

if there is one criticism of yzerman it is his love of average to below average defensemen who are "experienced."

look, if steve yzerman and sergei federov are your forwards you can afford to have veteran (old) defensemen.  especially if you have the greatest defenseman of all time on your blue line.  but if you have larkin (good) and compher (decent) in your top six, you cant be giving multi year deals to ollie maata, justin holm, and jeff petry and think you can be a playoff contender.
