They already have some 'splainin' to do with their constant promotion of betting on the game.  I understand that pushing fans to gamble on the game is not the same as a manager betting on the game, but the hypocirisy is too deep to ignore.

Steve Cohen is fighting to build a casino adjacent to Citi Field. The congressperson for that district is fighting back. It makes for good reading.

Along with Marcano, 4 other current players with MLB experience were given 1 year suspensions. All 4 are detailed in the above article, did not bet on their current teams, and placed low wagers. It should also be pointed out all lost badly.

I think this will become just as big of a headache for MLB as PEDs were 20 years ago. Not many people are going to Blink an eye at the above 5 players, not many have heard of them. But the mud will hit the fan when the first star is caught.

I'm sure many players are having cousin eddy place bets on their behalf, and that could be be a bigger mess.

It would not surprise me to see Duece behind all of this.

Bobby Witt Jr is good.  It's crazy how teams can find a guy like that at the top of the first round in the draft.

It's part luck. They just happened to have a high pick when he was available. We get Mize and Torkelson...

Lost all 25 bets?  This guy was even worse at gambling than baseball.  I wonder what the odds are for losing 25 out of 25.

Riley Greene was picked a couple picks after Witt. It's also not like the Royals have had a bunch of luck at the top of the draft either besides him. Looking at you Asa Lacy.

But I'm jealous every time we face Witt. We had all of those early picks and we need a SS. All that losing...

I've been wondering whether Baseball self-reported this particular incident by design because they want to characterize players betting on baseball as marginal nobodies who don't even know how to do it right, and who are not good players anyway, which certainly means they could never influence a game or a play in the service of a bet. That way, gambling seems less threatening to the integrity of the game, and Baseball gets to protect their uber-lucrative association with gambling interests. I mean, really, just look at the way we're all making fun of it. Jesus, what a doofus! He can't even break the damn rule right!

What we don't know, and could probably never know, is that they may also have discovered multiple All Stars with high merchandise sales attached to their names betting on games in which they have a duty to perform, and there is exactly zero chance of our ever hearing anything like that unless it's somehow leaked to the press.

I'm not saying Baseball for sure did this, and I'm not even saying that I believe they did. What I am saying is that if they ever did it, we'd never know it, because they would bury it fast and deep to protect the enterprise.

Tell me why I'm wrong.

If a star player suddenly takes a year off to play basketball, a la Michael Jordan, we might suspect that something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Something already stinks. It was too pretty of a bow to put on day when the translater pleads guilty, Ohtoni is cleared and his case closed, AND 5 AAAA guys were caught betting on baseball.

I think MLB is telling other more high profile guys "we know". I don't think the sports book notified MLB on of the kindness of their heart that these 5 guys were betting. I think it was probably a condition  baseball put on ALL the sports books in order to climb in bed together. "We'll take your money and promote you, but you will let us know if any player places a bet".

I'm sure there are a lot of cousin Eddie's and uncle Dueces out there placing bets for players as well. Someone will get caught eventually.

High qualty players like Phil Mickelson, Jordan, and Tiger Woods get a high from gambling that is probably the same trigger that made them so good what they do.  It's not difficult to imagine some MLB players having the same thing.  It's just a matter of time.

One of Chris McCosky’s old crushes toiling away for the Iron Pigs in Allentown tonight. He gave up a bomb on the first pitch to the first hitter he saw. You can tell it’s not going well in general for him.

I think a lor of the players are drama queens when it comes to the "stories" about people threatening them.  Not saying it hasn't happened but I am guessing they embellish it.

Kind of like when LeBron James claimed someone just happened to get into his high security gated community with armed guards not allowing anyone in, and spray painting derogatory words on his home, you know the one that has cameras that cover every inch of his property even though those cameras somehow missed filming the culprit.  And he just happened to have people paint over the words that were spray painted before the police could get there to document it.
